Echo made no effort to pull away from the healing embrace, and Hunter showed no intention of letting him go. They stood together for long minutes with no sound but that of Echo, weeping.
“I’m s-sorry,” he eventually managed to choke out between hitching breaths, clinging to Hunter and pressing his cheek to the other man’s shoulder, “I c-can’t—"
“Shh,” Hunter breathed, tightening his arms around him, reaching up to tenderly cradle Echo’s head with one warm, gentle hand.
