Sometimes I like to draw stuff about video game bosses that really stood out for me - not necessarily because they were tough, but usually because they were... unexpected.If I said that this guy: Zero-Two was the true final boss in a Kirby game, would you believe me?
It was Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards to be exact. In a simple, easy going game presenting a world full of bright colorful places and characters (even the baddies look cute!) - you get this as a final boss - a flying white nightmarish creature with vein-like wings, a bandage atop his head protected by a angelic halo, and a red eye that bleeds when you hit it.
Even now, that's pretty messed up to me!

A long while ago, I had a dream where Kirby and Ribbon are fighting 0². They nearly defeated him and 0² did a sort of last ditch attack which was a laser fired from his halo. The were hit, and began falling like they do in the death animation. Then, Kirby somehow had the pieces of Dragoon and formed it to catch Ribbon and they fought 0² like in the final phase of Dark Mind in Kirby and the Amazing Mirror.

Variations of Dark Matter have tend to be pretty twisted. Quite frankly it's a nice little change of pace from the bright, colorful and cheerful worlds. When it comes down to the end, you have this dark and possibly disturbing thing to deal with.

When you compare him to other kirby bosses he is rather unique. Hes actually rather evil looking.

Zero Two made that game for me. I still go back just to fight him sometimes, and if I somehow lose all my data, I'll do an entire playthrough of the game just to do so. It does help that Kirby 64 was a ton of fun to begin with, though. Not a bad piece of work, man
