Description
April 23rd, 40 B.C"Half breed!"
Crows of laughter gawked from the kid group as they dispersed. Dust and gravel kicked up at the dark cubs paws as they ran off, leaving Arvid to her own devices. She'd show them. She'd show 'em all.
Gritted teeth & tears made its appearance on the tribune as she found shelter behind one of the neighboring farmsteads. They're just parrots. They repeat what sounds cool and stick with it. Don't take it personally.
But she always did. She always took the brunt of the bullying- Better her than Runa. Runa wouldn't have the heart for it, as opposed to herself. But who's kidding who? Arvid never had the heart for it - and if you said you did... you were lying. Its all a matter of how you handle and grow from it right? Or... at least thats what Lux always preached.
It was a never ending cycle, that she quiet frankly, was getting tired of.
...
A soft, rumbling voice drifted round the corner as Arvid's heartrate started to slowly settle. Familiar. Warm.
"If you're running back here so quickly, there must be something tasty I'm not smelling."
Arvid let her gaze drift to the brightly coloured feline as she appeared, head first, from the otherside of the brick wall, green eyes sparkling playfully. Maddoc.
"Shouldn't you be at home with the rest of your Urchin siblings?" she joked, sniffling a little. Maddoc's ears perked, eyes sharpening as she noticed the dampness on her cheeks. Damn it.
"Woah, hey - Whats wrong? Are you okay?" Maddoc questioned softly, dropping the playful act and padding closer, looking like she was about to nose her face. Then her eyes narrowed. "Was it those kids? Do I need to go beat them up, Arvi?"
"No.. nono I'm- It's fine... Maddy" Arvid took a deep breath, letting herself compose for a moment. Maddoc was just one of those cats she felt.. comfortable around, and it was that factor that probably helped her most.
"I'll just have to get over it. Real hunters don't cry over- ... stupid teasings and name calling" Almost on cue, amethyst eyes fell to the grass beneath the both of them. A single paw placed strategically over a pebble as she rolled it back and fourth without second thought. "I'll be fine"
Maddoc huffed, looking defensively angry for her friend, but in the end, didn't really act on it more then to just moodily sit infront of her, ears back and glaring off in the direction the other cats had run off to. If she saw them anytime soon, she'd give them something to cry about for sure.
... Mama would probably say she'd been spending too much time with gruncle Puck.
"Mama says its okay for hunters to cry sometimes, Arvi. Grandma Bridie, too."
Arvid let that sit for a moment then, ears circling back around to face the world again.
Well if they do, they don't do it behind abandoned buildings... But still - She gave her a side smirk.
"Thanks Maddoc." The melanistic mutt murmured, promptly shuffling to bump her with the crown of her head. "Ready to head home?"
The tiger mutt sighed, but did bump her back gently, lifting one arm up to pull her into a hug by the neck, playful.
"Yeah. We'll get in trouble bein' out the gardens much longer"
