When seeing colorful animals, I always think of those critters who try to give predators the idea that they're highly toxic and not proper food. These slender Snakes always make me think of that with their quite colorful appearance.

Species: San Francisco Garter Snake (San Francisco kousenbandslang)

Latin name: Thamnophis Sirtalis Tetrataenia

Originates from San Mateo County and the extreme northern part of coastal Santa Cruz County, California, Uniten States.

Current status: Endangered

…The San Francisco Garter Snake is a slender, multi-colored subspecies of the Common Garter Snake, that can grow to a length of 46 to 140 cm or 18-55 inches.

…They prefer wet and marshy areas and are not often seen or captured because of their elusive nature. This, combined with many creeks and waterways that are as of yet unexplored where this species might live, makes it hard to determine their true numbers in the wilds.

…This Snake holds mild venom in its saliva, but has no fangs.
