Latin name: Pavo Cristatus

Orginates from India.

Current status: Least Concern

... Peafowl are often identified as “Peacock”, but this is the name reserved for the male; a female is called a hen, and multiple are called “Peafowl”.

...They are celebrated in both Indian and Greek Mythology.

...The current spelling of the word “peacock” derives from the 17th century, bit it was Geoffrey Chaucer who first used the line “proud as a pekok” in reference to a proud and ostentatious person.
