Description
When: August 26, 2018
Where: Zie-ZOO Volkel, The Netherlands
The background is natural - it just turned out that way, despite the fencing, which is pretty cool if you ask me. In their new enclosure, they're very difficult to photograph because of the distance from the enclosure so decent photos aren't easy to come by.
So very happy that this shot, with his wings raised above him, turned out well
Species: Bateleur (Goochelaar)
Latin name: Terathopius ecaudatus
Originates from Africa.
Current status: Vulnerable
Did you know:
…In Dutch, the name of the Bateleur translates back to “illusionist” or “magician”.
…Its name actually derives from the French, and means “street performer”, mainly the old tight-rope walkers, implying the bird’s characteristic habit of rocking its wings from side to side when gliding, as if catching its balance.

Wow! Cool!
Wait, are the bottom of the Flight Feathers really that shade of green, or is it the camera playing tricks?
Love the coloring. Its almost as if someone was playing with a Color Pallet and this wonderful bird was the result.
Guess its for camouflage?
Thanks for the extra pics!

That's the shading and the natural light playing havoc on his white flight feathers
I am really amazed at his colors; it's quite different to me from other Eagles, but they're also a fair bit smaller - kind of more like a Buzzard. So pretty, and such characters though!
I think they must look stunning in their natural habitat especially Not sure if their coloring helps with camouflage, but I bet it leaves quite the impression!
My pleasure

Thanks
It was a bit breezy, but he was mostly putting his feathers to rights himself, fluffing and preening and shaking himself
