It was a nice day in the EarthClan camp, things were just as usual.
" Liquorishfur, Stripeystar....." Starfireshine started. " one of your kits....are dead." Stripeystar and Liquorishfur stared at the medicine cat in horror.
"And the others?" Liquorishfur meowed beginning to look a bit calmer.
" They survived." meowed Starfireshine. " They will become great warriors one day." Starfireshine added trying to hope they wont always worry about their dead kit.

a moon later.

" Get up, Speedpaw! Its time for training!" Kkclaw shouted.
" We're hunting today."
Speedpaw just awaking with his tail wrapped around Pinkpaw, his closest friend. He licked her ear silently and trotted over to his mentor. Kkclaw sat at the camp entrance.
" Its about time you came, I thought by the time you came I would be an elder." Kkclaw meowed with humor in her voice.
" Ready to go?" Kkclaw asked Speedpaw. "Yep." He answered. " Good, lets go."

As they padded up the slop that leads to DirtClan territory, Kkclaw asked Speedpaw if he could smell any pray. Speedpaw lifting his head to sniff the fresh mid-day air he dropped into a low crouch in the dry grass. Kkclaw did the same, so that she wont scare away his pray. Silently Speedpaw began to sneak up on his catch. It was a mouse, a fat one too. Speedpaw sprang up out of the bushes and chased the mouse quickly. He came back to Kkclaw after he had caught it. "Good work, Speedpaw!" Speedpaw enjoyed the praise.

The two cats trotted back into the camp by mealtime. The fresh-kill pile was already half empty. 'We must gather as much fresh-kill as we can if we are to survive leaf-bare.' Kkclaw thought to herself.
" Why dont you take that to Starfireshine." Kkclaw told her apprentice. " She'll need the energy to keep up with the cold weather."
Speedpaw nodded and went over to the medicine cat's den. Kkclaw trotted over to the warriors den and fell silently asleep.

Kkclaw had a dream that night, a not so pleasant one that is.
She dreamed she was outside the camp. Her eyes squinting so desperately trying to see where she even was. She could only make out the sound of an animal trying to tell her something, but she couldn't get the words they were saying. a flash of blue light came in her view. ' What is that' she wondered. "Hello?" She tried to call out to know if someone was there. but her words were stuck in her throat. The blur light suddenly shown a figure it it. "Hello?" She called again, this time her words coming out. The figure ran quickly towards her and opened its mouth.

Kkclaw woke up shaking. Zktail curled beside next to her fast asleep.
"Quiet down! No cat in the forest can sleep with you yowling in your sleep!" Gabeshred meowed in a threatening voice.
" Don't be so rude to our deputy!" Heytail meowed. " She's only having a nightmare."
Heytail used to mentor Gabeshred when he was known as Gabepaw, but now he mentors Shadowpaw.
Gabeshred fell silent for a moment and laid back down like a kit who knows they did something bad.

The next morning.

" Kkclaw, Stripeystar wants to see you." Ninefeather told her, as Kkclaw made her way out of the warriors den.
" Thanks." Kkclaw meowed back to her.
When Kkclaw reached Stripeystar's den she noticed there was another cat in there, it was Liquorishfur.
"Yes?" Kkclaw asked Stripeystar as she came in.
" Did you hear the roomer that has been going around the camp?
" No."
" Cats are telling me that they have smelled dogs around the camp." Stripeystar continued.
" How close?" The fur on Kkclaw's neck stood up.
" About twenty fox lengths away from the camp."
That was very close to the camp to be outside home.
" We must stay sharp to make sure it doesn't get in the camp."
Stripeystar nodded while Liquorishfur lay by his side.
" We will keep watch until it has left." Stripeystar meowed.

Kkclaw feeling as hungry as she had been moons ago, decided to leave the camp to get some fresh-kill, along with Zktail, Speedpaw, and Pinkpaw. They caught three mice and a crow. As they returned to camp they all heard a painful yowl from inside, that made all the fur on Kkclaw's body stand on edge.

All four cats sprinted into the clearing to find two giant dogs.
Zktail dashed across and clung to the darker dog. It grabbed Zktail by his tail and through him to the wall. Speedpaw and Pinkpaw ran over to that same dog and clung to it's left four-arm. The massive dog whacked Pinkpaw, and she felt dizzy but Speedpaw kept his grip to the dog. Kkclaw wondered where Stripeystar was. She looked around and saw a pail dog holding her leader in its mouth. Kkclaw was shocked by what was happening. Quickly she dashed over to the dog and jumped at the right moment, and the dog finally let go of Stripeystar. Kkclaw looked over and saw a gimps of Heytail ripping the ear of the dark dog. Kkclaw hissed at the pail dog and gave him a scratch on the face. the two dogs finally gave up and ran away yowling in pain and distress.

Kkclaw and the others gathered around Stripeystar's motionless body that lay in the middle of the clearing.
Mews of sadness and pain that came from Kkclaw's Clanmates made her feel sick to the bone.
Liquorishfur lay beside Stripeystar's dead body, sobbing over the loss of her mate.
"Kkclaw." came a voice from the back of the crowd.
it was Ninefeather.
" Yes?" Kkclaw asked.
" Are you ready to become Kkstar?" Ninefeather finished.
Kkclaw's eyes widened as she still had so tears for the death of Stripeystar.
'She's right' Kkclaw thought 'I will be the next leader of EarthClan!'
