Thanks a lot for this reminder of a crucial concept : it's important to understand what we're looking at to make the elements our own and then being able to "play" with them.

I definitely need to follow rule one, don't copy, learn. I rely too much on reference photos. I should be learning instead.

ehe, thank you for the honorable mention.
I think this work you're doing here can be very useful. For example, from your previous tutorial I realized I didn't draw enough back-views.

I mention you because you do good work in my opinion. Don't worry about the back-views. Most people like to see the front

Makes me wish I draw better, but still just as hard with 3D render programs.

Great artists, but I'm not exactly sure if they're the best choice for *reference* purposes. They all have unique styles. For someone at the starting point, these might not be the best places to look for if they want to develop their own look and style

The starting point should be figure drawing. I said so in my previous tutorial.
Someone just starting off shouldn't be thinking about style. In fact, no one needs to think about style until their style emerges naturally through practice and proficiency.
I don't think looking at different styles hurts an artist's development because if it's good, there are fundamentals that you can find underneath the surface. That's what I'm trying to get at.
