Description A commission from Dr. Otto.

Young Mikey Jones wants to learn the language of Glorious Nippon, but he sucks at it. His patronizing teacher apparently pities him enough to invite him to her home for private tutoring, but is that all that's going on?

Note: the words in are spoken in Japanese.

this story is amazing.
japanese is a language i'd to try.
of course if the wordage was 'romanised'* it makes it easier to say it.

*meaning writing an asian language in its English form with all appropriate accents and pronunciation guidelines in place to help you master the language.

It's funny because I took French in high school and learned only one phrase plus the word for "snail"; I started teaching myself Japanese and in about 6 months, I had a vocab of about 700 and now I can almost have a conversation. French pronunciation is hard; grammar easy. Japanese pronunciation is easy; grammar is a monster! Also, nice comic įŽ‘

Why do they always say San or chan after the name?

👍: 0 âĐ: 1

Mr-DNA In reply to bruiser128 [2013-02-09 17:01:20 +0000 UTC]

Those are called 'honorifics,' and that is the extent of my knowledge on the Japanese language.

bruiser128 In reply to Mr-DNA [2013-02-09 19:03:56 +0000 UTC]

Well I have seen it in Manga and Anime, since I watch a lot.
Just wondering but, what do you think of Anime and Manga.

Animadefensor In reply to bruiser128 [2013-04-13 00:55:38 +0000 UTC]

-san, -chan, -kun, -sama are all honorifics. They each represent a certain class of respect.

-san is extremely formal, it is to people who you are not familiar with.
-chan/-kun are for people younger than you (or people you're really close with) chan for girls, kun for boys.
-sama is for somebody of high respect, or reverence
-sensei is your teacher.

Ooooh now I understand how the honorifics In Japanese work.

Also my dad told me he is working with a Japanese popstar in making a music video over hear in Canada.

As far as grammar goes, Japanese is actually not too bad. The conjugation may be somewhat extensive, but it is very consistant and has only three irregular verbs (English is loaded with inconsistancies and has circa 400 irregular verbs. The syntax is SOV rather than SVO, so that may cause problems (SOV is the most common syntax in the world), but adjectives can be used as verbs and a whole sentence can made with one word. On an unrelated note, "Mika" happens to be the Finnish form of the name, "Michael".

Mr. DNA,

Love this strip. It's just that being that now the man was turning into a woman who speaks japanese, I thought it would be interesting if they did talk Japanese and not have English with brackets in between. So I taken the liberty to use GIMP and Paint to put up some Janapanese in the qoute boxes and translation boxes at the bottom of the scene's for the English. Thank goodness that Google has a translation tool to translate English to Japanese. I can post them up on my profile page if you want me. Let me know when you read this qoute.

three gusestions for Mr.DNA
first,is Dr.Yamakura drive a 3 doors honda civic?
second, why Dr.Yamakura and mika are looking like geisha(the title of the women that DocOtto had mentioned) (althogh I don't think "mika" didn't put any make up on her face)(by the way,the real geisha only had their face, neck, and shoulder been maked up.the other part of their body are still fleah color)
third,I am wondering about what mikey's parent are thinking(letting their son went to the teacher's house at that kind of time(almost midnight)and how will they thinking when "mika" go home?

👍: 0 âĐ: 2

Mr-DNA In reply to miaknhikari [2011-02-01 21:37:34 +0000 UTC]

1. She's actually driving a Honda Fit, or a Jazz if it's taking place in Japan. Dr. Otto didn't specify.

2. They aren't geisha, they're just pale with silkworm moth eyebrows. It was in the script.

3. Mikey/Mika is in college.
