Alternate Serina 265 Million Years PE

This is just an interesting concept and will not be a long story. This is basically the savage counterpart to the woodcrafters.

In an alternate serina by 263 Million Years PE, a distinct northern subspecies of standing antlear exists, which it larger than normal standing antlears and also omnivorous. (It diverged by 260 Million Years PE, maybe even earlier) Selective Pressure caused by hunting form northern gravediggers led to increased intelligence and social behaviour, but unlike the woodcrafters the savage Antlear never gained sapience. The modern form exists by 265 Million Years PE. As they are more aggressive and stronger than their southern relatives they learned to attack in groups and sometimes also kill the northern gravediggers, which caused them to avoid hunting them and selective pressure decreased. Cooperative social cohesion is not as strong as it is for the woodcrafters. They are more competitive then woodcrafters and will fight for their place in the social hierarchy, while fights are usually not resulting in permanent injury and death, they are still very rough.

They are more social than standing antlears, but still have a similar herd structure, the herds are usually 10 to 40 individuals strong and are led by a stag. Other than the stag the herd consists of his harem, their offspring and several nondominant males, which also serve the herd.

Males still fight each other physically on occasion but often intimidate each other with display.

Being a male dominant society species, the males are much larger than the females, while savage antlear females are as large as woodcrafter males, the males are so large they can look a grown man in the eye. The have very strong antler arms, as brute strength still plays a large role in their lives.

The are about as smart as chimps and have primitive vocal communication, consisting of various whistling calls which indicate mood, objects or danger, but not a developed language at all.

They are feared by the woodcrafters, as they are patriarchal, savage, strong and unnervingly similar to them, and are kept out of the southern forests. At the same time they are fighting against their predators and are very strong, so they are also admired and feared. Northern gravediggers usually avoid them, while savage antlears are not as smart as them, they still come in groups, and therefore usually have the advantage over them.

Savage antlears can subsist of meat, which allows them to get through winters even in the taiga and southern tundra, and they will cooperatively hunt, kill and eat small prey, and occasionally hunt big game too.
