Yes, we're in controversial territory now. What do you do in wartime with people who are dying of radiation sickness? This situation was actually inspired by some discoveries I made while doing research for my comic. Basically, I found that, although popular opinion in the West was that the Soviets didn't care about individual rights very much (which the actions of the KGB and the psychiatric establishment in the Union didn't do much to defuse), Soviet field medics were supposedly expressly forbidden to perform mercy killings in the event of a nuclear war. One of those odd Soviet-era contradictions that nevertheless gave me a level of appreciation and respect for our former opponents.
