WHY HE IS ON THE LIST:
In the 90's if you had a I on your cover your were on the Wizard Magazine top 10 list, but if you were Spawn...you ruled the world!
Al Simmons was a former mercenary, a natural born killer, but he was in love...so much that when he died by the hands of a brutal betrayal he made a deal with the devil. He got his wish, but he didn't know he would be a Helspawn
But it isn't his powers or origin that makes him special, he was the right character and the creator at the right time. Todd McFarlane was on top of the comic world and Spawn was his ticket. Spawn mania was born. Movies, Toys,cartoons,and even underwear.
His popularity has slowed down over the years, but he will be forever be linked to the success and rise of a entire company and industry

Spawn was one of the superheroes that surprised me at first, because I didn't know he's African American when I heard of him in the beginning.

I always liked characters like that. To me a really good character makes you not even talk about his race.

So when guys like Spawn and to a lesser degree Shadowhawk turn out to be Black, you do say..Huh, I didn't know that, but it didn't matter one bit

very true, I never really read the books, but I remember getting knocked for a loop when I figured out Astro City's Jack in the Box was Black. go figure lol

Learn something new every day. I remember Astro City,too. Alex Ross was a phenomenal artist at the time when he illustrated the series. The art looked so realistic, it's brain melting.
