Reuben arrived at MSF High as a normal-looking Wild Elf with a few of his memories not quite intact. This isn't terribly uncommon, as things which are particularly unwanted tend to get suppressed, but from what he did remember, he knew that his "death" was the result of a grave misunderstanding. In his studies, he preferred to focus on various cultural aspects, be they historical, artistic, or biological, as he felt that he could avoid making the same mistake if he could understand others better. Over the course of his first year, he excelled in his language classes, his speeches persuasive and powerful, but still he felt something was not quite right about his new life at MSF High. He had made friends, learned skills, and discovered more about the galaxy than his previous life could ever hope to have accomplished, but there was still something amiss that he couldn't explain. Still, he kept at his studies, and while writing one of his presentations during a free study period, one of his classmates, the Gorgon sculptress Azura, overheard him humming softly to himself. Suddenly struck with inspiration, she caught him after classes and asked him to serve as a model for her. Reuben had seen what that entailed, but something about her enthusiasm told him to trust her, and he followed her to Miss Tulip-Blossom's room, with a model stand in the middle of its studio layout. With a petrifying gaze and a flurry of chisel blows, followed by a coat of paint, Reuben was transformed into a gorgeous Uruseiyan woman in a revealing lounge singer's outfit, and upon speaking her first words in this new body, she realized that it somehow sounded more familiar to her than her original voice. Stunned by her changes, she asked Azura why she changed her in such a way. After hearing Reuben humming to himself, Azura snuck a peek at his speech and realized something that Reuben himself did not--that his early draft of a speech was actually written as a song, with prefect meter and flow. While his speaking abilities were impressive, he was taking what would have been incredible songs and editing them to fit a speaking format that did not truly suit his feelings. Azura asked the newly-altered Reuben to read the draft as it felt natural to do so, and both were stunned by the wonderful melody that the new Urusaiyan produced. From then on, Reuben became Ruby, who now realizes that what she was unable to understand in her former life was herself. She has a number of regular shows in many of Mahou City's venues, where her striking performances always deliver a message that she feels important, but most of her free time is spent with Azura, Ruby's true love and the one person who was able to see her true self, even when she could not.
