It is possible, it just takes practice I guess. I started off with Paint shop pro actually a loong time ago and then I started teaching myself photoshop. I guess the rest is history now
You just need patience and a love for creativity and things will flow from there...

Have you ever seen the Kabuki graphic novel that David Mack did called Skin Deep? This piece reminds me very much of some of the work he did in that, clear down to the colors and tones of light. And that is a wonderful thing.
