You really have mastered drawing Basil and the other characters. They are all quite wonderful.Any helpful hints on how to draw him. I am ok at drawing him, but nowhere near as good as you.

Aw. Well...let's see...actually, I attempted a very ambitious project while I was trying to get to drawing Basil better - I was going for 100 expressions, I think I made it to 40-something, but it was still a grand exercise and I learned a lot from it. Time-consuming and rather tiresome, but there you have it, heh. Using shapes is another way I keep him looking relatively the same. Without them, I would be lost and he would be far more intimidating to draw. There's a great tutorial on dA somewhere...CHEESE BALLS I couldn't find it, but, it's pretty simple...a circle for the noggin, a cone for the muzzle, and then build on that. Sorry if that wasn't helpful enough, maybe I could try drawing it out...but then I'm horrible with actually drawing things like this...bargh.

"TA-DA"? Nice! I really love how you draw the shape and size of his nose.
It reminds me of the scenes of him in the beginning of the film, where it juts out much more and is closer to Barrie Ingham's own features.

I sort of have an obsession with shading character noses very...well, thoroughly. :3

I'm glad you do; I really like its look! The shine line gives the nose more of a noticeable shape. That is, the shape you make it is the same as in the film, but that added white line helps to show the separation from the top of the nose to underneath.
I can't believe I just did a whole paragraph about Basil's schnoz!

That is completely acceptable. I started doing the white-line thing waaaay back, when I was doing nothing but drawing Timon all day. Basil came soon after, and it's one of the things that naturally came back to me as I started drawing them again.

Ah, I see. Old habits die hard, but it's very fortunate this one didn't! It's just a very cute and detailed nose, makes me wanna reach out and touch it. If I were maybe five years old, of course.
