Description
“NYNX?! WAKE UP?!” I heard in the distance, reminded of this morning. There was also someone crying. Another pacing back and forth. But there was a fourth, rocking back and forth on a chair in a stressed tone.My eyes suddenly burst open. I sat up quickly, looking around the room at the speed of lightning. Ember looking shocked with her eyes widened. Avery stopped in her tracks right in front of the bed I was in. Carissa in the back of the bright room, in a chair and looking up with tears in her eyes. There was a boy sitting in a chair next to her. But he had the hood of his sweater up and you couldn’t see his eyes.
“NYNX?!!” My three friends shrieked.
“S-shut up! W-where am I?!” I screamed, franticly looking around the room.
The boy in the back stood up. “Hey, it’s fine… You’re just in the hospital. Someone found your gun and tried shooting you. Your headphones slowed the bullet down from going through your head. Although, you did get injured from the blow. And, don’t worry about the hospital bills, I’ve got it covered.” You could see a soft smile under the shadow of the sweater hood.
“I see…” I mumbled, realizing my headphones were no longer around my neck. Instead, bandages were in their place. Wrapping around my neck and forehead. “And who exactly are you?”
“Oh, sorry!” He said in a surprised tone, pulling his hood down. He had messy, light brown hair and his eyes were soft, but an unusual eyes color of gold. “My name’s Jaxon Zephyr. I’m here with my group on a job. See, I’m from Bliss Academy!”
My friends suddenly freaked, exclaiming “Bliss Academy?!” as if someone just died. They starting asking the poor boy what is was and if he knew who was going to be entered into the school.
“Calm down girls… I don’t know anything about the whole ceremony tomorrow… You’d have to ask Aaron about that.” Jaxon deeply sighed, suddenly looking straight at me with an intrigued look in his eyes. “Anyway, my group and I were on a job to find that person who’s been drugging people’s drinks at that cafe for who knows how long… Last thing we expected was seeing him find a gun and shooting someone… much less the singer upstage… I was sent to the hospital with you four…” He paused for a moment. “Wait a second…” He said in a creepy tone, walking up to me and staring me straight in my eyes. “Those are contacts… aren’t they?”
“No! She’s had those special eyes since she was a kid!” Avery exclaimed.
“Oh alright then.” Jaxon said, backing away from me and shifting his gaze. “Sorry, I was just interested.”
“What’s so interesting about my eyes? I’m always called nicknames because of it.”
“I’m afraid I can’t really talk about it…” He mumbled with a nervous laugh. “Not yet anyway…”
My three friends looked disappointed. Jaxon merely shrugged. “I’m kinda required to stay with you until further notice…” He sighed and crossed his arms, turning to my friends. “You three can leave if you’d like…”
They looked to me and I replied with a nod. Carissa sighed, putting her jacket on and following the other two out. The room filling with silence until I said suddenly “What’s a Blisstier?”
Jaxon’s eyes widened with surprise with the question. “H-how exactly did you know about them?!!” He exclaimed.
“Maybe she just knew about them from rumors?” A new voice was heard. By surprise, a small glowing creature appeared on top of Jaxon’s shoulder.
“Blaze… I thought I said not to come out this time…” Jaxon growled.
“What’s wrong with this?” This so-called Blaze said in a hyper and squeaky voice, jumping onto the hospital bed and crawling near me. “I mean… there’s a cute girl right there!!”
Jaxon’s face turned a bright red, before quickly snatching Blaze from the bed and running out the room door. He returned alone, his expression remained slightly annoyed, but calmed down once he fell into one of the chairs in the room.
“Sorry… Blaze doesn’t quite know when to keep quiet…” He said with a sigh. “Anyways… about the whole blisstier thing… it’s just what they call the students at Bliss Academy…”
“Oh… I thought it had a little more meaning…” I mumbled in response.
“So… your friends tell me that your name is Nynx… does that have any meaning to why it’s so original?” Jaxon asked, giving a slight smirk to me. I couldn’t respond, I only crossed my arms. “No answer? Alright… good with me.”
Not even a minute had passed before the door burst open. “Ey’ Jaxon!” A male voice rung out. “Kinda surprised Rose or Annalise hasn’t showed up yet, anyways… how you doing over here?” Three guys walked in, the one speaking wearing a grey scarf that covered half of his face, but I was able to notice his eyes looks towards me. “She okay?”
“Yea… Headphones slowed the bullet…” Jaxon responded blandly.
“You sure?” Another asked, looking directly at me.
Jaxon glanced over at me, his eyes widening as he immediately ran over and started removing the bandages around my neck frantically. “Dammit…” He growled under his breath. “Tell the nurse to get over here!” He yelled at the boys by the door.
“What’s going on?!” I exclaimed once seeing the one with the scarf toss Jaxon a syringe.
“Look Nynx… we’re going to put you to sleep for about an hour… We’ll talk about what happened when you wake up.” Jaxon said in a mellow voice before pinching the syringe into my shoulder. In seconds, everything went dark.
~
“Rose, I don’t even know why you’re here…” I heard an annoyed male voice. I could sense a female in the room with him. She let off this vibe of no emotion.
“Would you rather have Lizzy or that angel here?” A low toned female voice responded. “I’m only here on check in…”
My eyes dozed open. I was still in the same hospital bed, but the bandages on my head were gone, but I felt a strange coldness on the back of my neck.
“Jaxon…” I mumbled out loud. “What the hell happened…?” I heard footsteps coming towards me, soon enough, Jaxon kneeled down next to the bed to look at me directly.
“The cut on your neck turned out to be worse than we thought and it started bleeding immensely. They numbed the area, so that’s why it feels cold there…” He explained. “Also, they’re letting you out in the morning, I’ll call a friend to drive us to your place then take us to that meeting place…”
“So, you’re staying with me until then?”
“Until further notice… unless your parents can take charge…”
“Forget that second suggestion…” I growled immediately once hearing the word ‘parents’.
“Oh… alright” Jaxon said in a questionable voice. “I won’t ask why. You just get some rest… I’ve gotta talk with Rose here…” He said calmly before leaving my side.
Without another word, I closed my eyes and fell asleep.
