Description I made this at work recently, as part of a linear animation. We needed some clip-art style images to represent products in a very generic way. I ended up drawing this CD, some test tubes, and a few different boxes and logos to try and represent the concept of products without showing any specific brand. I was actually pretty happy with how the CD in particular came out, so I wanted to post it here. I am also offering it as a resource for anyone who wants it for clip-art (or as part of an icon set, whatever), so PM me for the original PNG file with alpha

This drawing took about an hour from start to finish. Looking at a CD face-on like this, there are a lot more colors than you might expect, and it was actually quite tricky to get all the refractions looking correct. I got the basic effect by filling a lot of horizontal boxes with color, and then applying Distort -> Polar Coordinates to make them radiate correctly. After looking at this in comparison to a real CD, I think I might have gotten the center holes a little bit out of proportion, but it's hard to tell.

I've been doing a lot of work lately, but I just haven't been posting much of it. I have a few photos I keep meaning to put up here, and a couple more Flash portfolio pieces that are all done, so hopefully I'll have time soon to get my Gallery up to date.

Are people allowed to use this as a stock in their graphics? With credit of course, I'd love to use it in a "Music" themed signature I'm making.

Definitely; unfortunately I'm not sure if I still have the alpha version (without the checkerboard background) since I've gone through a few hard drives since I first posted this, but you can use this file as-is. Hopefully you're still even interested, I apologize for my delay in response but I am very rarely on this site anymore.

No worries. Thank you for the response. I have found a different stock that made me feel a bit better using it, seeing it was an actual stock instead of art someone made. I really appreciate the response. Sad to hear you're not around much anymore. You've got some nice stuff uploaded!

Thank you! I felt kind of weird posting this one-hour piece next some of my more intensive drawings and other work, but I'm glad you like it.

I really need to get back to work on some of my Flash pieces like I said. You have some pretty awesome stuff in your Gallery by the way (I love the Isometric Game Engine). Any good ideas for portfolio pieces, or anything else I could build in AS3 that might impress a potential employer?

Thanks, I'm going to be using that engine for an online RPG

Something to impress a potential employer? No idea A calendar where you can set reminders and it remembers them when you re-open it?

That could be cool, it would be good JS practice to get Flash working with cookies...

I like the idea, I'll see if I can do anything with it. Thanks!

Don't need cookies, SharedObject. Kinda the same thing, but at least it's not relying on JS.
