Time taken: unrecorded

Tools of the trade: Photoshop CS5

Here's the more recently finished sister piece to my Golden-breasted starling paintingΒ here . Perhaps dramatically less shiny, the Common wood pigeon is nonetheless a gorgeous bird, and one that gets easily overlooked for those who see it commonly (yes, that includes me). However, they have a gorgeous soft pinkish purple breast that is hard to find on other birds, and their necks have iridescence as well, shimmering in bluish green and pink. Interesting detail: their pupils are not symmetrical, but rather have a little extra 'bulge' going diagonally towards the beak/throat.

The clovers above its head are a reference to its diet, which mostly consists of cultivated clover during the winter months.

Totally does, doesn't it? Wood pigeons are really adorable birds, though not very well adapted to human technologies. That whole idea of 'moving out of the way for a car' hasn't quite sunk in yet.. thank goodness for kind drivers who watch out for them

This one is so cute! Just as pretty as the other image. I love the pastel colors this bird has in contrast to the Starling's flashy ones. They're quite different

Thank you, goose! Very different birds indeed - the starling is more flashy 'in your face', the wood pigeon is beautiful in its subtleties

I like pigeons as well...But here in Paris, they are loathed by everyone, because of their feces. BUT ! We have a special hommage for them. The "soie gorge-de-pigeon" depicts some silk which has the beautiful colors of their throat

Ahh yes, in big cities the feral pigeons come together in enormous numbers. There's many people who don't like them there, and if you (or your belongings) are being covered in poop I can begin to imagine why haha. Still such gorgeous birds they are, especially with all the variation in colours. Oh, really cool that you have such a homage to the pigeons! Those shimmering throats indeed are some of their prettiest parts
