Painting for the animated movie Spirit, Stallion of the Cimarron by Nathan Fowkes. 2001, Acrylic.Great movie to work on back in the traditional painting days though it's hard to remember how to spell Cimarron right all these years later.

Did you know that Dreamworks and Netflix are creating a spin-off called Spirit: Running Free? It’s going to be CG animated (not hand-drawn :/) and Spirit isn’t even going to look like Spirit anymore.

This is breathtaking and artgasmic, and all done in acrylic??? HOW?? owo
I'm looking at variation in opaque tones and originally thought it was oil or watercolor, I always have a issue getting rich opaque color tones with acrylic.

This is absolutely stunning, all the more so for being acrylic-!! What I wouldn't give to see a process shot for this, the red undersides of the trees and the grasses are done beautifully!
