I keep repeating mistakes it seems.Or at least I keep repeating the mistake of drawing pictures with way too many chains in them while refusing to use brushes to draw them faster. x_x
But, look, chain overkill is an important thing to have! There's simply no more durable and resistant material that you could use to overkill-restrain someone like this!
Sure, most of the time, some rope or duct tape, maybe even just a wrap of clingfilm, would already seem nigh inescapable, but... come ooon!
... okay, in hindsight, steel plating might be an option, too. Just mold a bunch of steel to be a hollow replica of their body and then encase them inside of it. That'd be way easier to draw, too.
... Why do I always make this so complicated?

... though how do you knot/connect stuff to it? I don't actually have much of an idea how that stuff works, but it seems pretty rough to make knots with on first glance.

You don't knot it. You thread it though these metal sleeves called Ferrules (IIRC) and crimp it - crush the sleeve tightly around the cable locking it in place. You can either fasten it that way around something or just use it to make a loop in the end that you can put a lock on like the end of a chain.

And you could probably add some specialized versions of those covers here and there along the cable too, featuring things like D-rings or cable crossings. You could craft a ridiculously strong type of harness with a shibari-esque look that way.
Though yeah, I think given how it seems like you'd have to adapt the whole cable to each use case individually, I don't think it'd be all that viable for more spontaneous use. =v=' And I dunno how smooth those things are surface-wise, with all those metal-ish threads in there. Feels like it might get rather sadistic to wrap someone's bare skin with that.

I mean, that's a valid concern too.
Though I was more wondering if it might be damaging to bare skin when you wrap it really tightly around it. Like if there were small metal fibres pointing out of the rope in places for example, those would probably stab into the skin and rip through it if the rope moved. (That is, if this is actually the case, cause I don't know.)
In either case though, yeah, plastic-coated might work out better.

No, there aren't loose ends sticking out in the middle, the wires that make up the cable are continuous. I had one that I used for a bike lock for a long time.
