Description
A little while ago, I saw two movies that inspired me to make this piece; the critically acclaimed anime film, Wolf Children, and the craptacular Twilight-wannabe, Red Riding Hood (2011) (On the SAME DAY, no less!).Frankly, I feel kind of redundant doing this because this is a story that's been done to death with countless reimagining's, but I just figured I'd do my own spin on it, anyway:
Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Little Red Riding Hood . . . Actually, that's not right at all. Let me start over.
Once upon a time, there lived two werewolves that ruled the forest all across the land. One was good, the other was big and bad. They were the last of their kind. The two had their own personal pack of wolves to lead. The two packs would often clash with one another to claim new territory. Their two leaders would fight ferociously in battle, showing no mercy. But everything changed when a local hunter shot and killed the good werewolf. From that day on, the bad werewolf ruled over the forest with no one to stop him. But, unlike the bad werewolf, who dedicated his life to the wild and lost all his humanity, the good werewolf was still a man. Before his death, the good werewolf married a kind, young woman in the village. Not long after, they had a precious baby girl and her name was Rosie, named after the beautiful red flower of the same name.
Rosie grew up to be a very normal child, but one day, she went through a dramatic change. Being born of a human mother and a werewolf father, Rosie was born a half werewolf. One day, Rosie woke up with wolf-like ears on her head and a long, wolf-like tail. She soon discovered that if she focused hard enough, she could tuck her ears and tail back and she would look like her normal self again. But after a time, Rosie found it to become more and more difficult to hide her wolf-like features. But one day, her grandmother (On her mother's side) gave her a special red cloak that she had knitted herself as a special gift to Rosie. From that day on, Rosie's mother told her if she ever had a hard time hiding her ears, she could hide them by wearing the hood on the red cloak, with her tail underneath her dress. Grandmother thought the cloak suited her so well that she gave her the nickname, Little Red Riding Hood.
As time passed, Rosie became more and more paranoid about people finding out about her wolf heritage and labeling her a monster. She spent less time with the children in the village and would hide her face under the red hood from the local grownups, unless asked politely. Most of the time, her ears would subside and the grownups would be confused by her shy and nervous nature.
The rest of the story is pretty much the same, with a few alterations:
- The bad wolf has the ability to change between a swift, cunning, manipulative normal wolf and a large, heartless, and deadly werewolf that stand on its hind legs (Werewolves in this story aren't associated with the full moon; they can turn into wolves whenever they want).
- As Rosie continues on her journey to Grandmother's house, her wolf-like features continue to manifest to the point where she had claws, sharp teeth, and covered in fur.
- In this version, the wolf doesn't disguise himself as Grandmother nor eat her; he busts in to her house, locks her in the closet, and patiently waits to get the jump on Red Riding Hood.
- When Rosie attempts to save Grandmother from the wolf, she reveals her wolf-like appearance to him and he immediately finds out that she's the daughter of his former enemy. Rosie tries to negotiate with him, saying she's just like him, the wolf becomes more hostile and says she'll never be like his kind, and plans to kill her.
- When the hunter comes in and kills the wolf, Rosie's fur, claws and teeth subside, but her ears and tail are still present. She tells him she's the previous wolf's daughter and pleads to the hunter not to kill her, but she understands if he's upset about it. But instead, the hunter tells her about her father and how he never intended to hurt her family, but rather he was just being protective of the village. He apologizes and the two hug it out.
- Grandmother faints at the sight of her granddaughter having dog ears. With the courage she gained after confronting the wolf, Rosie later manages to gain control over her transformations and is able to look like a normal little girl in front of people without fear. Grandmother never reconsiders it and assumes her frightful experience was all but a bad dream.
- With the bad wolf no longer haunting the fellow wolves of the forest, they become Rosie's newfound friends of the forest who aid her whenever she travels to Grandmother's house. During that time, she shows off her ears and tail proudly.
And they all lived HAPPILY EVER AFTER!

Let's get this first: I LOVE THIS CHARACTER!!!
Fairy Tales are infamous for not giving us really complete plots and really generic characters. So, it's a really smart first step to not only complement the story, but also to make up a backstory for the setup. Like a resume it works perfectly, the only nitpickings is the many times the "War Between Clans" Trope has been used before, but I think it's the kind of story that needs to be seen in motion to be ennjoyed.
The design as always really adorable. I would say that the werewolves may need more unique features, to be more memorable, like giving them an unrealistic coloring or some marks over the fur, or even scars for the villains.
However, the way you drew this is really nice. First, coloring the scenes lightly with color pencils, but using marker for the red parts, makes these last elements to stick out incredibly. Also, the way you divide the scenes with tree branches is really original and clever.
But, hands down: your version of The Little Red Riding Hood is such a cupcake. Really pretty face, but a really original feature to put her as a werewolf, and even one that can control her transformation at will. I just want to hug this little girl...and put her on a high shelf to see how she can't climb down XD XD XD
Also, cuddles for, even making her like a Tragic Hero, don't put her as a target of cruel treatment to get simpathy from the audience. Instead, like you always do, reduce the cruelty as much as possible. Also, once again: KAWAII!!!
Is it a good work? Yes, it's a BEAUTIFUL WORK! Congratulations! Someday you will get the Toy Girl of the Little Rosie. See you!

Although this story has been done to death, I like the twist you put on it. You wrote a plot that, although a bit cliche, is still enjoyable, and the artwork compliments it. The drab colors make for a backdrop that fits the story's tone quite nicely, and the shade of red you used really makes Rosie stand out. As usual, the style of the art is pretty simple, but effective. One minor complaint though, is that Rosie's grandmother apparently knew Rosie had ears, yet later in the story, she acts as if it's new to her. Anyways, great job.

Rosie's grandmother never knew she was half werewolf, but her mother did. Rosie's grandmother knitted her the red cloak as a gift for Rosie (Most likely to keep her warm during the fall and winter seasons), unaware of her werewolfism. Rosie's mother took advantage of it and told Rosie to use it to hide her ears with it.

Okay then, but you could have phrased it better.
Just saying.
