I shouldn't be feeling this-
this ginger-ale-bubbles-giggling-lightness
that makes me unbalanced
and leaves me too silly to make sense.

But should has very little to do with it.

Should doesn't change
the way a weight lifted off shoulders
too narrow to carry it,
as soon as the words left my fingertips.

And even though they weren't heard
by the one they were meant for,
it still felt like
rainbows-roses-long-soft-kisses
and smiles
and strawberries covered in chocolate
in someone else's fingers.

Maybe should is another one of those words
that needs to be banished from the dictionary.
