Description
This is my latest piece... it's Sirona, a Celtic goddess of healing, rejuvenation, the mysteries of the womb and creation. She's also a river goddess, linked with hot springs in parts of Eastern Central Gaul, and her symbols are the snake (a symbol of healing and rebirth), the dog (healing and the lines between life and death), the egg (the womb, creation), grains (fertility). She often wears a long gown and a diadem with stars or on one statue, the crescent moon.
Her most important symbol is the star, as her name actually means "star." Though I have found no specific meanings for its symbolism, to me is a sign of hope... a light in the uttermost darkness.
Painted on a 5"x2" thin slice of wood.
I am available for more small devotional altar/icon work like this at a very affordable price. Please note me for commissions!

Pleased to see a Sirona interpretation, she seems to be somewhat undiscovered by modern artists.
The retro 1930's styling seems to suit her. The way you worked in the snake, egg, star and moon without ending up with "person holding shedload of attributes" is also great. The framing of the egg by her hands seems appropriate, to me, but not sure why; it just is.
Nice.

There are a lot of 'lost' deities that I think are wonderful. For a while, Sirona just spoke to me. Thank you for your comment. I really appreciate it. Oh, for another interpretation of her, I'd check out Myre's version: [link]

Thank you! Sequana's up next, so expect another long-winded explanation. Heheheh.

The scanner ate a lot of the subtle tones, like the varying shades in the egg... but thank you. I really appreciate your comment... and I like your new icon!

Very similar to 'Seren' the modern Welsh for star, and your approach to her as an embodiment of hope reminds me of Galadriel (which if I remember correctly translates as 'light of the tree' or 'tree of light') Love this piece, her hair reminds me so much of the styles from the 1940's movies, very 'Veronica Lake'.

I dunno how you pronounce "Seren." "Sirona is pronounced something similar to "Stirona"... Tst for the first syllable. ^_^
And hey, I like Veronica Lake.
I swear to you, I will get that letter out. Been down lately, so... not as motivated to do stuff.

I can appreciate the 'down' thing, it can be absolutely debilitating.

Yeah, it's tending to be that way.
