the chaos rings found in the game "Knuckles' Chaotix"I'm really not sure what they are meant to do, I think putting them in the Altar of the Emeralds' Pillers summons the Master Emerald
seeing as many Alters Exists, this would make it easy for knuckles to safely move the master emerald.... maybe?
it's not super clear what they do

At first glance I would suggest they can be used with each corresponding emerald to achieve a power far greater.

they're just sources of power. they're created by a feedback loop resulting of the floating island being arisen, which cut the energy connection the master emerald had with newtronic high zone. the energy left without anywhere to go became these rings.

They were also in satam they increased sonics power,speed and agillity,they then reapeared in sonic X with the same powers

and then in Sonic X they where just called "Rings"

Maybe they can help Sonic and his friends increased their power as long as they wear them on their wrist.
