Built to contend with the Borg Threat (that's slowly rising) the Defiant class escort would be the "Ares" of its time being built as a Warship, the USS Defiant NX-74205 (later NCC-1764-D) was designed in 2366 as a small but powerful starship, however it would be mothballed with flaws and the diminishing Borg Threat, but when the Dominion Threat emerged from the Wormhole located in the Bajoran system the USS Defiant was pulled out of Mothball to defend the Bajor sector along with Deep Space Nine (Starfleet commanded Cardassian station Terok Nor) The USS Defiant along with some ships of the Defiant class ships would have Romulan Cloaking devices installed on them. The Defiant class would go on to serve up to the 25th/26th centuries.
