Description This was for my second semester of Ceramics. We actually had to make the underglazes. I was assigned a blue underglaze which I know I used in the smaller pieces and I think I used it in the fishbowl piece too. The other underglazes in the fishbowl are actually a commercial underglaze.

Sadly each one of these pieces have their tragic stories.

The little pot with the lid got stuck to the kiln and ended up with a few small chips on it bottom edge as it was removed. Not too noticeable but I am bummed that the underglaze ran a bit. It was raku fired afterward to get a slight crackle effect.

The piece with the hole going through it also had its glaze and underglaze run. Also a tiny piece of glaze chipped off and brought underglaze with it. This piece was weird because it didn't stick to the kiln like the smaller one but instead created blobs of glass stuck to the bottom of it that are way too impossible to understand how they formed if it was sitting on a kiln shelf. It looked like water getting ready to drip but it was all over the bottom of the piece. We raku fired it to get the crackle effect, which melted the bottom glass and created a ring on the kiln shelf, oops! I ground the rest off because it was too scratchy and potentially damaging to tables.

The fish bowl was a much later project nearing the end of the spring semester. The first and second fish turned out the best but my third wasn't so great. The white crackle glaze didn't melt to nicely on this piece so I had it fired again which caused a teeny tiny crack to get a lot bigger and awfully close to my second fish.

I know it's always kind of disappointing to have glaze run or end up with a crack, but I personally think that it adds to the uniqueness of each piece.
The fish are amazing by the way^^
