Description This is basically a piece I made in Spring 09' and just finished firing and painting today, Sept. 15, 2009. I couldn't wait to get to work on it so I took a long journey between buses and walking to get to an art store for some rub n' buff, which I didn't find but instead was a patina antiquing kit instead which I think turned out better than my rub n' buff plans would have. It definitely has the verdigris I was looking for. But the copper doesn't look like it did on the box. Its more of a bronze but that has copper in it anyway and it gets verdigris too so I guess it works out. I just wish I was more careful with the verdigris as it turned nearly the whole piece green but a little copper polish, touch-up paint, and Pledge orange oil helps hide what I don't want to keep. This patina antiquing kit is some of my new favorite stuff now, even though it grew verdigris under my fingernails. Better wear gloves next time...

The story behind this piece before I made the caste begins in November 2007. I bought plaster of paris and made a face mold of my neighbor and brother. I tried to do it for myself with some of my neighbors help but that didn't work. So I tried again with my brothers help. Hes not very creative and lacks logic at the worst times. So I had to prepare this like I would for a brain dead monkey. So I wrapped the top of my head with a plastic bag to prevent any plaster from getting in my hair and smeared extra Vaseline in my facial hair to prevent painful removal. I also walked him through the process. Unfortunately my brain-dead-monkey-proof system wasn't enough as he manage to pour excess plaster on the bag over my hair which managed to weight it down and fall off getting plaster in some of my hair line. Also he smeared the plaster in my facial hair as well. So when the moment came when the plaster had hardened and was heating up, I was trapped. My face felt like it was in an oven so I smashed through it to allow it cool down and prevent burns. I've never seen my face so red to tell you the truth. It looked like it was covered in sweat but I think that was just the water from the plaster precipitating on my face. Problem was I still had some large chunks connected to my face. One at the hairline and another at my unshaven chin. The hairline one came alright and was unnoticeable. But the other end didn't end well. It was one of those moments where you had to go 1, 2, 3, RRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIPPPPPPPP! I felt every single hair pulled out and could hear a distinctive sound that went "plink" with each hair. I always wanted a reason to shave. I never would because I was afraid of how my face would look. I would trim and that's it. After that happened I actually liked myself better that way and have since kept it like that.
