Description
Originally it was an Elf luring a man into a trap enprisoning him on the rocki eventually ended up tweaking and ended up with a darker figure in a dark scenery.
I think i'm starting to accomplish goal#1 which is breaking free from the anime and becoming more independent.
I'm also starting to look for other things besides character illustrations, pretty much what i mentioned on my journal.
This year is starting to look perhaps a little bit more experimental.
It may not look as glamorous as other paintings i did but i must start somewhere, like when i started with characters
~cheers

i had an old woman who sits next to me in a class that i have at college that i mess with some dif software saying this could be an opera banner and it looked like an opera scene
some people agreed
me, not so much - mainly because there is some serious sh*** between me and her, and all my classmates hate her and trust me she needs no pity - but also because seriously an opera?
"ohhhh the pain of it all"
i can almost see the words coming out of his mouth

Awesome.
It would probably look better with a secondary light source from the lower right to define (?) some of the shapes some more, like the man's left arm (his left) from the torso part of his jacket.

And the moral of this story is... never trust horned white hermaphrodites with sinister makeup... It's quite interesting and expressive actually And you're right, different from what you've tried so far

Nice to see you breaking out of your comfort zone
and trying new things, I know its a hard job having
more than one figure in your scene. Good job on
this one.
As you mentioned it doesn't look as polished as
your other pieces but I can definitely see a story
in this piece which is a good thing.
Great concept!

nah it isnt that much of a difficulty, i painted them both actually pretty fast, the problem that i can find is probably making them interact more naturally, like i said i need more practice in these kinds of things.
Right now i think im having this art breakdown, i think im going down a few notches but its like *artozi said, sometimes you have to walk two steps back to go take 4 ahead.
i need to go back and re-learn a few things, not sure how long it will take to bring back my good artwork.

Did you start it in grayscale? if not, that just might
be the issue.
I see what you mean, I started from the bottom up
so it'll be a while before I turn back. I'm sure
you'll come back up with greater knowledge of your
subject and we'll implement it making an awesome piece
appear off the hook.
Its nice to hear this from you Rui!

painting in grayscale usually even sucks worse
take the gatekeeper for instances, started in a grayscale and then i ruined it continuously
i need more practice on grayscale before moving to more complex pieces, this one was painted straight on
as far as i know
grayscale only helps setting the mood
usually i have learning curves or even ups and downs on my painting process
why's that?

GDSWorld In reply to NightmareGK13 [2010-03-25 21:29:27 +0000 UTC]
True, I tried that too but its like painting over
the same thing twice, it works for some people
and I can't even say much about it coz I haven't
experimented enough with it.
I always thought the main reason for using grayscale
sketches was to lay down basic lighting before moving
onto the colouring phase.
Because working in your comfort zone is easy but with
more knowledge your work will continuously improve.

i have a couple of times and yeah its pretty much like that
when you add color straight on, things come out much more naturally and more painterly like
yes it has that purpose, but it can also work to set a mood for the painting
exactly

I get where you coming from and I just
think you should see what works best for you
End of the day its about coming up with the
best polished work you could and how you do
this is not that important to people!
