"In the name of Lexion, rightful ruler of Edenoi, I call upon the powers of light and truth. ECTO PHASE ACTIVATE!"The American version of Masked Rider is a remaking of the Japanese series, Black Masked Rider RX.
In the original, Kotaro was already a Masked Rider for one whole season. After his first meeting with new enemies in the second, an intense exposure to sunlight grants him a power upgrade, which turns him into RX.
In the American one, Dex is an alien prince who received great powers from his grandfather the king. In order to escape from those who desire his powers, he travels to Earth, where he learns the ways of humans.
Compared to our current standards, both sides may look old school, but there are some notable differences in their stories. One focuses on the long running war between good and evil. The other has some life lessons at the end of some episodes, like how to handle a bully. Still, they're classics in their own way.
Side note: The Masked Rider's actual debut is in an episode of Power Rangers, where the team pay a visit to Edenoi, and a misunderstanding leads to Dex fighting Rocky and Tommy. A crossover by Americans, way before the Japanese can come up with it. How about that?
