Description

Before being allowed to meet an inmate, the visitor must first be vetted and approved by the correctional authorities. They begin the process by visiting the facility that the inmate is housed in and paying the fee for their security screening. If they pass through the screening successfully, they will then pay and be measured fitted for a visitation uniform. The outer garments including the cap, belt, and boots may be rented while the leotard and socks must be purchased. Optionally, if the visitor wishes to present themselves perfectly, they may purchase their own custom fitted uniform. A ID card indicating their security clearance level as a visitor will also be issued at this time. They may then proceed to book their visitation session 3 months from the date of completing their security screening.
On the day of the appointment, the visitor must arrive at 0600 in formal attire. Their hair must be styled in a bun that fits within the uniform cap and any body or facial hair below the ears must be removed. If any inapprorite hair is found, the visitor will be required to take a depilation shower at their own expense before taking a regular shower as usual. A thorough cavity search will then be performed before the visitor being allowed into the secured section of the prison and be dressed by a service inmate.
To prevent indecent exposure and sexual misconduct, visitors are not allowed to touch their undergarments for the duration of the visit. A security tag is placed on the back of the leotard and on each of the socks so that they cannot be removed without damaging the tags. During this time, the visitor is not permitted to make eye contact or converse with the service inmate, who must remain silent for the entire procedure. When the visitor is properly dressed, she will be taken to a mock visitation room where she will be instructed on the rules and acceptable behaviors for a visitor. This entire process will take approximately 3 hours and the visitor will have to wait an average of 4 hours (and up to 7 hours) in a waiting room before a visitation room becomes available and the inmate is prepared.
