Okay, so...for those a bit out of the loop and haven't read my recent journal entry, this is going to take some explaining. In short, it's over - the near two decade long, ridiculous TLK vs. Kimba The White Lion controversy has been settled once and for all. A YouTube channel known as YMS recently made a 2 and a half hour long video addressing EVERY point made against The Lion King in relation to Kimba. He watched every minute of every Kimba incarnation; from the manga, to the 1960's TV series, to the most modern adaptations and movies. He digs up all interviews and documents regarding the controversy. And after making all of his points and arguing his side, the outstanding overall verdict is...NOT guilty. TLK has been acquitted of all 'charges' of plagiarism. The war is finally over.

In the midst of his review of Kimba, he comes across some things about the series that's pretty fucked up honestly. Like lots and LOTS of blackface, other racially insensitive material, Elephant genocide, fucked up morals, pro-colonialism messages, Kimba physically abusing his own children and other animals in a particular series, Kimba being potentially a rip off of an old comic called 'Simba: King of Beasts' and finally the thing that this deviation depicts...Kimba carrying around his dead father's corpse and often using him as a prop. Yes, the adult white lion you see beside Kimba is his father...and he is DEAD, and he's wearing his mane like a scarf! People in the comments often jokes about the idea of Simba doing this with Mufasa, so I HAD to draw it! And might even draw it again in another way at some point. This show is unintentionally hilarious at times!

I'm thinking of making a small series of Kimba parallels and putting them in TLK as a small celebration and as a joke. Is it petty to start taking jabs at Kimba? Yep. Do I care? Not really. Most of us have been harassed by a rabid Kimba fan at some point, and often with very little provocation. Kimba extremists have used this controversy as a weapon for so long, taking some kind of moral high-ground and judging us for liking something that bares such vague resemblances to their favored show. Which is hilariously ironic; given how clear it is that so few of these rabid fans have actually watched the entire series! Not all Kimba fans are awful (obviously), I can say most of you are civil; even when arguing in favor of TLK being a rip off - but unfortunately, the bag eggs in your fandom have left a very bad impression of you guys as a whole. And don't get me wrong, I don't hate Kimba at all. I used to watch it when I was little, my mother grew up with the series, and we often rented it at our local video store. My memory of it is foggy, but I do remember enjoying it.

This is the beginning of a new era of peace between the two fandoms, the two properties can finally exist independently of each other. No more fighting, no more weaponizing other people's art. We can finally just be...AFTER the Lion King fandom takes a few jabs of course - in response to the near two decades of this bullshit from the Kimba fandom. But don't worry, it won't last long, it will (mostly) just be in good fun only, and we'll get bored eventually and move on with our lives.
