Description I know that you can't see the small text very well, but I'll go back and fix it later. I made this one many months ago and lost the GIF project file, so I'll need to start back up again.

Anyway, I made this back when I seriously began to notice Japanese fanart (mainly from Pixiv, but elsewhere as well) popping up on deviantART, usually by kids that just go "lol I found this XD Dunno who drew it" or worse: claim that they themselves drew it.

Mind you, Japanese fanartists tend to take art theft VERY seriously. You tend to see banners for the Online Fanartists Protection union on those sites:[link] and in the worst case scenario, Japanese fanartists will take their sites offline when they get tired of people hot-linking and/or posting their art on other sites.

Please, if you didn't make it, and haven't slaved over that piece of art, then you probably shouldn't upload it onto dA under your name in the first place. If you're going to show off your collection of Japanese fanart, keep it to Photobucket (which dA isn't).

I just don't get why DeviantArt won't allow third party reports for copyright infringement, they specifically ask for DMCA notices from the copyright holder no matter how obvious the art theft is. The Japanese artists might not even know English or don't want to deal with something this bothersome.

If you report the submission nothing happens. If you comment on the infringing page the thief will just delete it. If you post a thread calling it out, it'll get locked by the mods. They say it's been like this for years and thatΒ third-party reports would be heavily abused, but I say dA is just too lazy to give a shit about art theft.

I seriously wish people would stop stealing from them. I know a couple of artists who took down their art and mysteriously disappeared because of the theft that occurs. It makes me very sad because I enjoy their art a lot. I heard a rumor that Pixiv was going to block the site for international people because of this.Β

Same person as someone who posted an art meme from Pixiv. Nice.

Shouldn't be posted ANYWHERE without their permission actually, not even photobucket. It says so right there on the site.
Tumblr must be Japanese fanartists' hell.

I hate when people claimed that there fanart even though it isn't truly theres. But it's by the original creator from Pixiv and other websites.

Take a look at a perfect example of tracing: [link]

I always put 'pixiv' as a tag when I search art thieves' 'art'

So many are stolen from pixiv.

I completely support this.

Or even worse "I found this on google". Thinking that this is somehow a citation drives me CRAZY. And honestly, if it is 100% not their work, they really ought not to post it even with a handwritten letter from the original creator. It's just ANNOYING.

Agreed with this stamp!
I've seen pics that I've recognized posted on the Rule 34/paheal site. That's why there is a DNP list if you want to add the name of the artist.

I've also seen pics on a forum site and I recognized one of the images. I don't know for sure if they did ask them or not.
As an artist myself, I would NEVER post anybody's images without asking.
I mean, this is serious stuff, you guys! D: Think before you ask!!!!!!

THIS. Seriously, DeviantArt is for loading your OWN art, not someone else's. The only time I think that its even remotely okay is that if you give full credit to the artist and have their EXPRESS PERMISSION... Which in most cases, the artist usually tends to be good friends with the uploader, but I digress.

It really does irk me when people try to claim other's art as their own. D:< It especially irks me when they think they can get away with it because the artist is Japanese. Just because the artist lives overseas does NOT make it okay! *huff*

There's a whole webpage (probably not the right word) that talks about how Japanese artists would prefer people not to upload their art (the Japanese artist's art) anywhere; they'd much rather people view the art on their own site.

Dunno if you knew about that already.

...shit. It's the one in the art piece. I feel super stupid now.

Still though, I didn't think this art piece was talking about stuff like Photobucket because that's usually what people complain about when they link people to the OFP thing.

Derr... remove that "probably not the right word". Originally I had said "a whole scene" and I left that in there.
