Step 1 was just a digital doodle, took me a few seconds to draw it, and after that I continued fleshing it out on a new layer

That's fantastic! I was curious as it was quite a blurred start and you brought so much detail through. I thought you might have started with a scan of a sketch that had more reference but to do this from such a quick doodle is very impressive (at least to my unimpressive abilities

Well sometimes I have an idea in my head already, but in this case, it was completely spontanious. I just felt like painting a realistic dragon and practicing values, shapes and stucture
