Description For as popular as this naked apron (or: hadaka apron, hence my title) trope is in both anime art and pinup art, it's surprising that I've never done one of these before. And that's pretty much what motivated me to go with it this time. My holiday blues have sufficiently run their course, and I have a couple I want to make in February, but I didn't want to wait that long to put up something up something new. So: that's not really interesting in the slightest, but it led to a cutie with a nice li'l bum cooking up some dinner, so, nothing wrong with that!

I think a big part of it that it's easy to get the appeal of this one no matter what, but, MAN, five years of living alone REALLY makes the appeal of this one clear. This idea of "there's dinner soon and I didn't have to be the one to make it? AWESOMESAUCE!" You just get those days where it's like you really don't feel like cooking (and I DO like to cook), but you'd sooner eat a rat than order another goddamn pizza. And you already have such a huge stack of boxes that adding anymore would technically make it a structure and your neighborhood isn't zoned for that, and those city inspectors can such assholes. . .

So yeah, wicked cute girl who can cook. Be a full-on bachelor for awhile and see how much the appeal of that grows at a geometric rate. And I'm about as progressive as they come, I'm not some relic of the 1950s who thinks the role of woman is to serve man, but it sure is super of them when they do it! I don't care how forward thinking a guy believes he is, if his girlfriend or wife says "Babe, I'm gonna strip down to nothing but an apron and cook you up a nice meal." I guarantee there will be no opposition to that, unless his parents are visiting for the weekend or something. In which case, you're kind of a messed up chick.

Besides, it's an indulgent male fantasy. There's no rule that those have to be politically correct. In fact, if it IS, you're doing it wrong!

I had loads of fun with this one, though. The only real rough spot I hit was in designing the kitchen, and that was just because drawing in perspective can be a little tricky when it's this close up and subtle. They teach you to draw in perspective by having vanishing points-- which is well and good until you have an angle where the vanishing point would be four feet off the page. So I had to eyeball it, which I don't really love to do. I'm quite happy with how it came out HERE, but I've had bad experiences with that in the past. It doesn't take a lot to make your perspective go all wonky.

Also, she has a nicer kitchen than I do. That's part of the fantasy as well.
