Description
For my friend JenHow to draw Necks and Shoulders.
I decided to start here because I never see tutorials about this area of the body and I feel this area is just as important as anywhere. So here we go.
A: After drawing out your body frame and head start slightly in from the jaw bone and curve down and out about half a head. The neck and shoulders usually have a dip where they join at the base of the neck. This depends on the body position.
B,E,F & G: If the body is angled, the neck line will start just before and under the chin, not connecting with the shoulder. The shoulder will instead come out of the neck line and be shorter than the other side. This is not always the rule as you can see in G where the arm is raise and thus the shoulder is too.
C,H: Raised Shoulders with no neck lines are best for overhead camera angles or forced raised shoulders like in C & H. In H the girl is leaning over blowing. You can not see the neck at this angle. In C the girl is lying down or leaning over something forcing her shoulders up.
D: Here the girl has her hands behind her head also forcing her shoulders to be raised but in a more natural way. The Neck-Shoulder dip is much more harsh and can even be overlapped.
Practice drawing figures with arms in forced and odd positions to better understand how shoulders sit.
Be sure to let me know below if you have any questions.

Oh, you have NO IDEA how much this helps me. D: Starting the piece is always the hardest for me, and I always second-guess myself on shoulders. D: Thank you so much!

Wow this turns out quite hard than I expected. So before I draw anything I always have to start out with this outline? I have this strange way of drawing which I always draw a face without guideline. I know it will turn out bad but I just don't know how to draw a guideline that's why all my drawing look odd LOL
Thank you Nat! I love this tutorial and I am sure this will help me! Though I know this will be tough
I will keep trying I really want to draw a proper human LOL I know my previous one was horrible but I really want to draw something that I have imagination in my mind.
Do you think I should enroll for an art class?

So before I draw anything I always have to start out with this outline? no, no the frame, looks like a bone structure. the red lines is the body frame.
Don't get discouraged, Sketch. I think from what I've seen with people I've helped friends, you've got to relax your wrist and hand. Sketch, Sketch, Sketch! It's different than drawing. It's messy looking. Sometimes When I was young I would scribble all over my paper and try to see something in the messy scribbles that I could sketch over or change into something (not always a person). I'm working on a step by step tutorial for sketching maybe I can make a short video or something. lol that makes me nervous.
So sketch out the bones, then start with the outline of the head and then do down, Neck, shoulders...etc. ^^ don't worry you'll get it. If you want to take an art class go for it. I've taken many art classes and the only one I didn't like was art history...boring. lol

Oh so we can not skip the art history class when we take art class? LOL damn I don't really like history too although I do pretty well in history
Alright, I should not panic myself. I should just go and do it. So sketch and draw are 2 different things right? Ok errr I think I have never done sketch before. When I said draw I really like use the pencil and just draw out whatever I want LOL I did not know where to start.
Oh my god! You will make a video? That would be so awesome!
So when I want to draw a person I can not start with the head? I usually spend too much time to work on the eyes, ears, hair before I add up body. So I have to start out with a circle for the head first? after work out the rest then only I fix the face?
Wow this is so challenging. I wish to try one more time

Pardon me for this intrusion, but I read your comment about sketching and not starting with the head and so forth, and I just wanted to give you a link to a certain person who has a lot of help to offer on the subject:

Here's a direct link to her tutorial gallery:

I really hope these can be of use to you. I wish you the best of luck with your art.
Then I shall leave. Pardon me again for my intrusion in what seemed like a private conversation.
