It's weird, because I never had quite such an attachment to Brontosaurus, but considering how I felt when I heard some of my favourites such as Anatotitan and Seismosaurus were no longer considered valid, now I think I understand...

This is called nostalgia I think...

Well, it was never fake actually... just a taxonomy problem.

I'm still very confused over the basis of this claim. I was always taught that Brontosaurus was a chimera of two other sauropods (wasn't it Apatosaurus and Camarasaurus?) whose remains (notably the heads) had been mistakenly swapped.

No, the fossils are valid. It is just that they were incomplete and the skull in particular is missing. Even today, I don't think there is any Brontosaurus skull known. But for reconstructing the animal, people used skulls of other animals such as Diplodocus and Camarasaurus, or even, in one instance, something which is not based in any fossil.

Not completely sure about Torosaurus yet (the whole thing might drag on for some time until better evidence is found that they indeed represent the same genus at different stages, or if all Torosaurus species represent toromorphs of Triceratops) but Dracorex maybe on its way to that since it has yet to receive studies that run counter to the claims it and other flatheaded pachycephalosaurs are subadults *and* has the cool name people are not likely going to let go for awhile.Β
