Description
Added a few intermediates in the primate to human evolution series: form left to right and top to bottom, Purgatorius (just representing the ancestral primatomorph, although the genus itself is most probably a Plesiadapiform), Plesiadapis, Necrolemur, Aegyptopithecus, Proconsul, Sahelanthropus, Ardipithecus, Australopithecus afarensis, Homo habilis, Homo erectus, Homo heidelbergensis, Homo sapiens, Homo sapiens sapiens...Related content

I've got a question, and I'm sorry to have made you the person to answer it (for now), but one of my big questions has always been; "out of all the animals we could have evolved from, why the ape?"

There is no real answer to this question as there is a big factor chance in evolution. Imagine that something happened to one of our human ancestors, perhaps Australopithecus, getting wiped out from the earth because of sudden climate change or a meteorite, maybe civilization and intelligence would have evolved in another branch of the evolutionary tree, such as in dolphins. It was speculated that should non avian dinosaur survived, some would end up much smarter and evolved into humanoid beings, who knows...
