Description Ok so here is it, my first tutorial EVER .

Not much else to say other than its how I have been making all my books to date.

**Update** for those who have asked about paper specs.

I print my pages at home on 160 gram paper with all my printers settings to max.

And the print shop does my covers on OVERSIZED A3 (very important you need the extra space to be able to trim down).

And we print at 105%.

Their paper is something like 250 gram gloss.

*Just want to say thanks for all the Favs etc I will get round to thanking everyone individually. (I thanked people until DA declaired I must be spamming so I'm off to work).

this will help when I finish my graphic novel! Question, did you do all your art work digitally? Im planning to do my work traditionally, scanning each page, then printing them, but Im not so sure, and was curious what your opinion on that would be?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Null-Entity In reply to TheBlu3Giraffe [2012-06-06 20:53:13 +0000 UTC]

Glad it will help, I will admit its NOT my war work, I simply made books of game art for games that went "un-loved"

If you can do it digital/at least the colour it would help as scanning always looks bad, you would likely have to re-edit them after anyway.

Oh wow! This is awesome! I'm writing a short graphic novel that I have to bind for an assignment. I was prepared to pay money (that I don't have) to get it done too. So you could understand why this tutorial is a godsend for me! Thank you!

Will do! I was wondering what kind of paper did you print your pages on, and the cover also? My print shop offers a variety of different papers to print on and it's quite confusing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Null-Entity In reply to Oogie-Boogie-Boo [2012-04-12 09:25:57 +0000 UTC]

I print on 160 gram paper from staples but I'm sure its nothing special, I put all my print settings to max photo and slow it right down .

As for the print shop I think its about 250 gram oversized A3 (so there is an edge to cut off), with a gloss layer on it

Hope that helps.

Have to ask, man... Did you get it printed at home or a print shop? That's a very good quality print you got there.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Null-Entity In reply to AngelERenoir [2012-04-11 08:08:36 +0000 UTC]

I printed at home, on....160gm paper

The cover of course was from the print shop I can't print A3 at home.

P.S. Thanks for the fav.

AngelERenoir In reply to Null-Entity [2012-04-11 17:04:32 +0000 UTC]

My printer doesn't seem to print all that nicely. What kind of ink/paper do you use? And how do you layout the pages to print?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Null-Entity In reply to AngelERenoir [2012-04-11 17:56:06 +0000 UTC]

Its an Epson SX200 , nothing special.

I max out all the settings for photo/slow print.
And use really thick 160 gram paper I got from stapels (normal A4 is about 60-90gram thick off the top of my head).

I set up each page in photoshop individually and then arrange them with Adobe bridge and convert to PDF so it can print the lot double sided.

Not perfect I need to find a way to move each page away form the spine (and not have to do it maually), but it works well enough right now.

AngelERenoir In reply to Null-Entity [2012-04-11 19:49:01 +0000 UTC]

Now you should make a tutorial for the setting up I still don't really understand it, LOL. I fail.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Null-Entity In reply to AngelERenoir [2012-04-11 21:37:15 +0000 UTC]

Its not that hard, each page is a picture..I use adobe bridge to put them all in order then it makes them into a PDF.. and I print the PDF

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AngelERenoir In reply to Null-Entity [2012-04-12 13:50:13 +0000 UTC]

But I don't even know how to make PDFs

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Null-Entity In reply to AngelERenoir [2012-04-12 14:41:38 +0000 UTC]

Its not needed it's just my method of keeping everything in page order to print.
