Description
Modeled and rendered using Blender 2.36.I was waiting to have something interesting to say about this picture, but it is just something that came into my mind after realizing that a desert rose was actually a kind of rock, not just a kind of flower. I wish I came out with a better title.

I like this. So vast yet the eye goes to the rock after taking in everything else.

good job! NOw im not so off. Couse its 2.36. Anywho...did you use the stucie or...ya..however you spell it, texture for the sand? Or do you have a texture you used for it. I think it would have been cool to have the rose at the bottom just a bit out more. But thats cool how you got it to work like htat. Great peice! AND BLENDER ROCKS!!

The effect of the sand is composed of three layers of textures. Here is the list:
1. Noise, affecting only the normal channel at 0.25 strenght.
2. Musgrave, affecting only the normal channel at 0.18.
3. Marble, affecting only the normal channel, at 0.08.
I ommited most of the settings, since they depend on the scale you are working in.
Something important is that I rendered it at 2500x1875. The noise texture is never scaled, so the size of the grain depends on the resolution of the image.

ON the materials tab there is a section where you configure the mapping of the texture (it is usually to the extreme right of the tab). There is a column of buttons where you can choose on which texture layer to put a texture. Each button is a layer, just choose a layer, and click "add texture" in the combo to the right of that column. Then you can configure that texture in the texture tab.
