Oh no.. really? *sarcasm*
It's just one method.. what are you reading a tutorial for if you're so 'experienced'?

Because I'm not. But I want to at least learn the right way. So much 'ultimate'.

Very interesting tutorial, I always like seeing the methods others use.

Its effective, but this is just too time consuming for a task that I find myself repeating all the time. The built-in Photoshop extract tool works in nearly the same fashion and is much faster.

Often channels and masks can be used to an even faster degree. The pen tool works fine as well, without all the hand work.

This is a working method, and it may have its place, but I think many have found faster ways.

nureen In reply to Iamdied [2006-11-29 07:37:16 +0000 UTC]

And I'm sure there are many more effective ways.. and mind you, I very rarely use this method.

BUT this is just one way I wanted to show people and I'm sorry to hear you didn't find it useful.

This is basic for people who havn't extracted, to learn one method.. someday I'll get around to explaining all the other tried and tested methods too.

However though you didn't find it useful doesn't mean others didn't.

Thanks anyways.

Hey babe! Good tutorial! But you really should consider using layer masks. They give exactly the same effect, but enable you to make changes at a later stage.
What would you do for instance if you discover you have made a mistake deleting something you shouldn't have. The history tool is only good for so long, and every change you have made in the meantime is lost.
With layers you just paint the mistake back in... easy as that

Quite true

Yeah, I have started to consider using masks.. but even so.. this is just a tutorial on extracting with the eraser.. just in case

Thanks for using my stock! I'll download it and read it soon. I hope this helps many people. Especially when it comes to kid stock, I have the hardest time getting Erin to stay in one spot. She's a moving target, but it makes her poses natural.

Thanks! for letting me know.

nureen In reply to theartofjayharrison [2006-09-25 14:44:17 +0000 UTC]

It probably is, actually.. but I kind of like the results I get using this tool. And it's not that hard (plus.. I enjoy it )
But I'll try that next time
