Description
I can't wait any longerI've been sitting for hours it seems
Though, as I look at the clock
Only minutes have passed.
What if she doesn't show up?
I've already ordered; It's already here
But just as I think of standing to leave
My breath rushes our before I can move.
I recognize that face.
That face I knew for so long asn so... Intimately.
Her eyes scan the cafe and I raise my eyebrows
Indicating the seat in front of me.
(I still can't believe it's her)
Does my fear show?
She settles down with a smile
And her sweet apple scent surrounds me
Hiding behind my cocoa, a mumbled hello
Brushes past my lips towards her.
(My old lover as beautiful as ever)
The silence stretches between us like taffy
Breaking as she drops a bomb atop my head:
"Do you still love me after this long?
Because not a day has passed
That I have not remembered fondly of what we had."
And I remember what happened with us.
What she did to me, and why.
This was why she called me out here?
Eyes watering, I stand up
Tipping my cup and watching the liquid
Slowly slide to the edge of the table
And drip like tears to the floor.
But I turn, and without looking back
I return to my solitude.
My life, my job, my cat.
Repeating a promise to myself
To never forget again.
