Slightly different take on my Dryad thread.

(EDIT: Updated image with more finished sculpting work)

Added the branch and leaves to upper arm.  Not sure if I like that addition or not.

Thanks!  There were some interesting twists and turns with this piece, and we'll see how she survives the fire (there are a couple of stress points I'm watching carefully).

Thank you!  Now, just see if we can survive through the firing!

I hope she survives and if she doesn't I hope the process will provide you feedback that will help you perfect the procedure, in my case when my work fails I get angry or depressed and go do something else!

Yeah...  I tend to get depressed for a short time, and then try to see if I can either repair the piece, resurrect it somehow, or at least learn something in the process.

I've learned that I need to be more careful with the heads of figures, to hollow them out, or at least to not let the head dry too much before adding wet clay for the hair.  (I've had a couple of exploding heads on otherwise flawless pieces, which was frustrating!!!)  I've learned to not let pieces dry before assembling them, and to mix paper (tissue) to clay when I try to repair cracks the form during drying.

Yeah, there's so much to learn.

You're an experienced professional artist, I'm a glorified amateur so it gives me comfort to know experts have similar problems to myself.

Also one thing I've always liked about you is that you actually respond to comments from your watcher, not everyone does that.

One thing I've always appreciated about dA, which I haven't found anywhere else, is the way it encourages--or at least makes possible--the dialogue between artists of all levels of skill and professionalism.  Yeah, there are plenty of hacks and borderline porn, but if you take the time, you can really learn, and find teachable moments.

Also for better or worse (or much worse) the internet is a place where everyone seems to get into a fight at every turn, but deviantART is a place where people genuinely seem respectful.

I love the way your figures are one with nature !

Thanks!  I'm trying to see if I can put some "leaves" up around her upper arm, as if they are sprouting from her arm.  Not sure if it'll work, or if I'll just leave it as it is.
