What is 'redrum'?

'Redrum' is a word used in the novel "The Shining" by Stephen King, and in the movie based on it and directed by Stanley Kubrick. It is 'murder' spelled backwards. Also works on many other levels, being suggestive of bloodshed, wrath, inebriation, violence, a force that consumes people's lives like some satisfying drink, and something used to subdue the Native American tribes that form a subtext of the film.

Conformation: Thanks to ample Eridanus and Akhal-Teke influence in her bloodlines, along with Harlequine Palfrey (Arabian) influence further down, Red has a light, airy conformation. She bears mostly Thoroughbred-like and Teke traits, with more of a rounded back and slightly heavier frame than her purebred Teke ancestors. Shows a slightly "improved" conformation as per Western conformation standards.

Background/Personality: Redrum, better known as "Red", like most other foals of the succubus Ruthless and her twin, Syndicate, was the result of her mother's efforts to seek out stallions to bear (demon) spawn. True to form, she shares much of her mother's traits, including a vicious aggression towards anyone she perceives as an enemy. Make a foe of Red, and she won't just go after you - she'll stop at nothing until she destroys you.

Under saddle, BSS trainers are finding that Red is surprisingly ready, eager, and willing to please. She is an easy learner, and enjoys exercise and being hacked. Despite seeming to go into a berserker rage with prey, Red has been raised among humans since her birth, and acts like any other domesticated horse around them - albeit with a silent, intense, and calculating intelligence behind her crimson eyes. Solitary, intimidating, fearless, extremely defensive and aggressive when threatened, and reserved - traits shared with her grandfather, Grievous - are also present in Red. However, she does not tolerate other stallions; due to her extreme, aggressive behavior towards them, she is kept separate from them at all times.

Red may seem docile at first, but make no mistake, she is a very bright, cunning mare. One minute she might press her muzzle into your palm, and in the blink of an eye, she could rip your hand right off. Staff and trainers are required to wash hands thoroughly before handling and haltering Red.

Much like her human counterpart from "Orange is the New Black", Red is cynical, watchful, and seeks to eat the "strongest" animals or defeat her mightiest foes in order to "gain their power". She especially enjoys eating sheep hearts and other animal organs - normalled used for class dissections, but ordered specially for her - but also enjoys hunting for her own food. Has a tendency to rip and tear her prey to shreds, or occasionally, bring back a bloodied animal corpse as a "present" for her owner(s), much like a cat. Very rarely seen to be sleeping, but all occasions she has been seen sleeping has always been standing up.

Mostly nocturnal, Red only eats meat, and greatly prefers live prey. Can smell anything meaty or bloody within a mile radius, and will readily eat anything meat-related or scented fed to her. Beware feeding with bare hands/fingers!

Passable Traits: Will always pass on red eyes if bred to a stallion with eyes of any color, excepting yellow. Red eyes are dominant over yellow when breeding her yellow-eyed descendants; breeding her to a yellow-eyed stallion is a 50-50 chance of yellow or red.
