Just as you get comfortable on your new perch, you see the Queen take center stage in the city square, excitement building in your chest for what might happen.

"Tonight," she says in a deep, feminine, almost sultry voice as she speaks out to the crowd."You have all gathered in my city to feast, and to celebrate Daius' promise of Spring as He seeks to deliver us from the struggles of winter with his magnificent warmth. But that gift is not something we deserve."

A somber mood seems to fall over the crowd, and you have to admit this speech doesn't feel jubilant or celebratory, not even light-hearded like back home. There is a sincere seriousness that weighs on everyone gathered in the square, and you find your eyes drifting from the Queen and up to the Harpia who has perched atop a large phoenix statue built in honor of Daius. You freeze...because it seems like he's looking straight back down at you, for just a moment.

"Daius demands a sacrifice from each and every one of us over the winter months. And you have all toiled and struggled and survived, while my husband and I have kept watch from our tower. We benefit from your struggles. We command you and hand down your laws. We bask in the wealth and power that is our birthright, but...for all of this splendor, a great sacrifice is required."

You jump with surprise when the Harpia suddenly plummets from the statue and lands with a deafening thud beside the Queen, a low, raspy trill in his throat as she strokes his beak. "Like the Great Phoenix, who must die in order to be born again, we commit this year to its final resting place, and welcome the rebirth of Spring."

In a sudden and fantastic display, the Harpia takes flight high in the sky, and breathes a massive cone of flame...into his own chest!

--- "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE??!"

The outrage in your voice carries over the whole crowd, horrified at what you've just seen. With everything you've heard about this shining city, such a display of fantastical death you never once even heard rumors about! This Queen must have been crazy to command her own Stryx to sacrifice itself!

Aand we finally reach the culmination of the craziness that's the Festival of Frost - the Road to Sol story line! I may include a wrap-up piece at the end of this one, and probably add the pieces to the ends of the other chapters, since they also contained a conclusion piece to them that kind of left the chapters sudden in transitions during the race to keep on time with it all.

Still not a big fan of drawing human faces, getting better at understanding hands though! Also multi-perspective distortion is a butt...
