I love how subtle yet expressive this version of Azathoth is! ^_^
Do you mind if I print this on my custom d10 dice? It's just for me, but I want to use the outline of this Azathoth for the die I use to summon Azathoth in 'Cthulhu Wars'!
By the way, why is this marked for "mature content"? Besides Azathoth being generally scary to some people, I don't see anything objectionable here.

Thanks - go for it... print away... I really need to take it down and re post it with a better scan... this one kind of sux...
Its mature content because DA is a bunch of censorship freaks and it has a female breast in it... which is nudity.... which qualifies for their mature content... I hate censorship... but those are the rules...

The resolution on the image looks fine to me, so I can't imagine how this could get any better. It's up to you I suppose, though. ^_^
Also I'm just using the outline, when I order the custom die it's going to be carved into the die. I'd love to show you in a few months when I get it but I don't post my own art here.
The "add media" option might allow me to send a photo of it when it arrives though.
Also, I haven't ordered the die yet, so if you want one too let me know! (Although you probably want to send your information in a private message.)
I'm preparing for when I get my Azathoth faction expansion for 'Cthulhu Wars'. In the game, the amount of power points necessary to awaken Azathoth depends upon the outcome of rolling a ten-sided die marked with 1-10. There aren't many 10-sided dice that have a side marked with a 10 instead of a 0, so I'm having one made (plus I want it to be appropriately themed). Alternatively, I'm allowed to roll a six-sided die and add two to my roll, but then the only possible outcomes are 3-8. That's not random enough for Azathoth!

Cool. I'll send you a message, and then you can send me a message via Facebook with your address. (They'll need your address to deliver it to you.)
It's only one die though, so probably not too useful on its own unless you're using it for a specific purpose. :/
On the other hand, might be cool to look at! x) The people I'm looking at are called 'Q-workshop'. They make custom dice, for people but also companies. I have a sneaking suspicion that the 'Cthulhu Wars' combat dice were made by them too due to the design similarities to other stuff they've done, but I'm not sure. All I know is that they do dice for 'Call of Cthulhu' and 'Arkham Horror', and also non-Cthulhu properties.

Hey a 10 sided dice is a 10 sided dice... I'm a table top gamer for everything under the sun - so a custom one is pretty cool... not to mention I'm a Lovecraft nut....

Hear, hear!
Do you have any 10-sided dies that are marked with 1-10? I hear they are pretty rare.
By the way, what inspired this particular picture? Something about the style seems medieval or at least early modern, maybe like something one would see in a manuscript.

I'm not sure, I may have some that do... but you're right, mostly it's a 0...
As far as inspiration goes, a few years back I was toying with ink styles for a massive project, I was undertaking a large number illustrations for the Nero LARP Monster Manual, and trying to develop a style for it that had a sort of medieval feel to it... and that piece was one of several Lovecraftian critters I did during that time... I sold several of the origionals, and worked on a large collaborative color piece with a buddy of mine that touched on Carcosa as kind of the culmination of the branch of that time and work... all.that stuff is great fun subject matter...

Yeah, I saw that!
I like how your King in Yellow tentacles wrap around that one pole similar to the snake and pole on the binding of the original cover. However, I'm more partial to your rendition of Carcosa which I think is utterly beautiful! :3
By the way, in the original printing it said the twin suns sink BENEATH the lake of Hali. That makes the whole image even more surreal, but that notion is so weird they changed it in subsequent printings.
However, if the suns (and the "daytime" they represent) are visible beneath the lake of Hali during the "night where black stars rise", that to me is a powerful image, as if day and night are blended in Carcosa, similar to timelessness.
I love how 'True Detective' took a fresh look at the Carcosa Mythos from outside the context of the Cthulhu Mythos; also, all those animals and antlers challenge my theory about the separateness of Hastur and the King in Yellow!
Honestly, I'm still forming theories myself. In any case though, more and more I'm starting to think that the King in Yellow mythos and Cthulhu mythos should be treated as separate, and that the conflation of the two has been bad for the King in Yellow mythos. I'm not a total purist in that I think the two mythoi can interact, but I think that attempting to explain one mythos using elements from the other serves to its detriment, kind of like if we discovered that Cthulhu is really a Carcosan, or that Kryptonians were really tail-less Saiyans during an episode of 'Dragon Ball Z'. If there are to be stories that connect the two, the connections should grow naturally and not be the result of a forced marriage, i.e. they would incorporate elements of both mythoi but take them on their own terms as they are defined in their respective original mythos, treating the Great Old Ones and the King in Yellow as different phenomena for instance. In contrast to this, I feel like the idea that Hastur and/or the King in Yellow is really Cthulhu's half-brother feels like a really poor fit for such a mysterious entity. It's open to interpretation, but the Yellow Mythos feels stifled somewhat by the forced connections with the Cthulhu Mythos.
I hope I go into writing some day because I have a lot of interesting stories in my head, not the least related to all of these characters. I feel like Hastur ought to be explored in more depth independently of the King in Yellow, because after reading 'The King in Yellow', 'An Inhabitant of Carcosa', and 'Haita the Shepard', I'm starting to think he's a potentially extremely interesting character. Personally, I'm starting to think that Hastur's true form is actually a star. Maybe the vision Rust saw at the end of 'True Detective' was Hastur himself, the god of hope whom Rust had never believed in. Who knows?

Thanks - I'm glad you like it... it did not sell at my last show... I think I am going to put it in a kick ass scratch made strange frame with like a velvet backing for the next one...
I'm stoked for the next True Detective.... I am hoping it will be as good as the first season...
I'm not much of a writer... but I like to read... alot... horror is just one of the things I enjoy reading...

That's really cool. I do like this style. I could believably see something like this being present in a real document.
It's funny that you mention Carcosa. I've been reading the 'King in Yellow' recently for the first time, and I'm not sure I'm in agreement with most people who think Hastur and the King in Yellow are the same.
Hastur actually shows up as another character in one of the short stories called 'The Demoiselle D'Ys'. In the story, he seems very similar to Ambrose Bierce's version of Hastur in that he works in mysterious ways (either causing or being related to the time-travel that occurs) but at least seems to be a protector of the main characters, at least by appearances. Notably he presents himself as a nobly dressed servant, in contrast to the King in Yellow who is a king who wears tatters. It is also hinted that he transmogrifies back into a falcon at the beginning and end of the story, and it is implied that he is close to nature, which also doesn't seem like the surreal King in Yellow at all. Furthermore, Hastur seems to be associated with real stars of different colours, whereas the King in Yellow is associated with black stars.
My theory is a lot more detailed than this, but my thinking is that they are enemies of a sort, with the King in Yellow perhaps only existing as a delusion caused by the play (or not) and Hastur existing as an entity that is a real god present or mentioned in the play but which is independent of it. I don't think the King is an avatar of Hastur because they have almost no similarities; however, i believe that the two are conflated and that the King takes advantage of this, i.e. there might be more than one Hastur: the real one, and one or more yellow "Hasturs" that are extensions of the King in Yellow or whatever force he represents. These "other Hasturs" might include a false nature-god Hastur, and the tentacled monsters which he uses to ensnare individuals familiar with the Necronomicon and its mythos, but these façades might not be truth.
I guess my thesis is that Hastur, the King and Yellow, and the Cthulhu-related entities are distinct, but as human beings we have trouble seeing the differences between them. All we see is the supernatural without understanding the forces behind it.
