Light Elf (Changeling)
Light elves are gentle, humanoid creatures with pointy ears. Most of them have delicate bodies, soft features, vivid blue eyes and blonde hair. Their bodies often glow in a soft, pleasantly warm light which also has a calming effect on the people around them. They are said to have valuable blood and they are able to help humans with the magical powers (primarily healing). Often they are appreciated by humans as guardians or muses for art and music, though they rarely get in contact with the human race. Sadly, because of their blood, there are still people that only wish to see a Light Elf to kill them and sell their blood for a good price.

This fairy folk has a tradition where they exchange an elf baby with a human baby once every century. The elf baby is supposed to adapt to human life and learn their ways and the human baby gets raised by the elves instead, learning their way of life in return. The tradition is held by the elves to unofficially maintain in-touch with the human race. It is also a test that is supposed to prove men's behaviour towards their folk. Some humans see the Changelings as a blessing, some as a curse. Changelings, being raised by humans, are able to adapt to the human appearance to an extend but in the process also lose most of their fairy traits. The only residue are slightly pointy ears and golden spots on their bodies, called Sun Drops, that are the last remains of their glowing skin. Sun Drops only glow when the Changeling uses his abilities or simply 'activates' them.
The powers of a Changeling are very weak compared to normal Light Elf - for example, they are only able to heal minor wounds, whilst pure Light Elves are known for their amazing healing power.

It is quite normal for Ori's race that he is a very pleasant and gentle person but his way of living also contributed and influenced him a great deal.
Growing up under poor circumstances, he managed to form a deep bond with his family and he learned that it is important to care for the people you love, observe if they're having a difficult time with something, stay by their side and do whatever it takes to ensure their well-being without thinking about yourself first.
He also learned that it is very important to remain hopeful even in the most difficult time and try to get the best out of it, maybe even think about how to better the situation in some way.
Because he was the only one of the brothers who was lucky enough to get taught, he grew very passionate about learning things and values it, likes to observe anything that grabbed his interest and tries to understand it.
Sadly, Ori started to get scared by people easily and prefers to stay away from them unless his twin or somebody else is nearby whom he trusts. The Elf can seem very private at first but with enough patience, he warms up to people and manages to socialize.
◈ { H i s t o r y } ◈'
One fatefull night just about a couple days after the birth of two human children, a small Light Elf was brought to a young mother by the Fairy folk, who laid him into the crib next to Oz and took Oz' real twin away with them instead.
Automatically, the Changeling adapted to the human appearance and took over Ori's place.
The stressed mother of the two did not notice at all; she wasn't supposed to.
The two, Oz and Ori, grew up normally alongside each other, but when the years progressed it slowly got more and more obvious that something about Ori was different from the other humans that lived in their home town. His appearance seemed to shift slighty in the weirdest ways, his ears started to get pointier than those of a normal child and on his skin, strange spots started to appear progressively. Nevertheless, the poor prostitude loved their children equally and dedicated her life to be able to care for them.
When the twins became children, it got almost obvious that Ori seemed to be of another race.
His ears were now quite pointy and the spots on his body multiplied. As for that time, they looked like freckles but weirdly white.
But he didn't seem to be sick.
The mother told him to cover his ears with his hair and wear high collars and long sleeves for the strange spots that covered his body, just for the sake of his safety, since the towns people began to wonder about the child, who was the only one of the twins who regulary went to school, as there was only enough money to provide education for one.

Melody worked hard to save up for a visit to the doctor, who had to swear that he would not chat with others about the strange boy.
He agreed and when he examined Ori, he found out that the boy was not sick indeed but actually from another race. Fortunately, the doctor even knew a bit about it, thus why he was able to identify him that quickly.
Melody found out that Ori seemed to be a so-called "Changeling" of one of the fairy folks.
Melody was worried about her real son but after the doctor ensured her that Light Elves did not kill the children they took but rather raised and took care of them, she was relieved and accepted her son instantly.

As for Ori, he felt out of place.

The twins were inseparable from the very beginning and Oz proved himself to be quite protective around his brother and encouraged him that there was nothing wrong with him - just like their mother did. That was especially good for the little boy, since Ori, shocked by the fact that he was a Light Elf Changeling and seemingly the only one of his kind for another one hundred years, isolated himself quickly and got too scared to amidst people. He even refused to go to school - something that he had never done before.
After enough ensuring, eventually he got just a little more confident - enough to go to school again - but proceeded to have deep doubts that he really belonged and rather stayed away from the other kids of his age.
As a result he had no friends besides his brother - causing him to grow even more deeply attached to him - but at least managed to concentrate very well on learning.

They never had a consistent home because their mother wasn't paid well as she got older, so they either slept on the streets or at their mom's clients home, but Ori never really minded, as long as his family was safe and sound. Winters were hard, though and one day, during a very cold night, when they had to sleep outside, Ori discovered his powers for the first time - or rather, that he was able to glow and provide warmth and calmness among others that were close to his body. Melody was sure that his boy saved the family from freezing to death that night.
It hurt at first but his strange, white freckles were now permanently tinted into shinging gold.
He guessed that he was able to activate his powers because he was scared his family would get sick, anyways, since then he began to experiment a bit and discovered that he also had minor healing powers, which positively surprised him. Sure, he wouldn't be much of a help when one of his dear family members were seriously hurt, but it relaxed him a bit to know that he at least could make little wounds better.
Now, he was curious to know more about his folk, but haven't had the possibility to do so yet.

The three of them never got rich but it had been always enough to live off. Yet the older Melody got, the less money she received, which made gave her a hard time caring for a family of three, which was why often she was the one to go without food often because she knew that her boys, especially since they were now growing up to be teenagers, craved more food. When Ori and his dear brother found out about their mother not eating for their sake, everything slowly fell apart. Ori started to get into more trouble because he began to steal food. Being inexperienced in that and solely doing it out of desperation, he was caught more than once.
He gained unpopularity progressively and the townspeople got angry with him, calling him a 'weird' child, even went as far as to calling him an 'abomination' or a 'monster', most likely because the strange golden spots were impossible to cover up completely by now.
Scared that they would turn on them, Melody rather kept his son with her when she wasn't working and Oz got himself an apprenticeship at the local blacksmith but had to quit very quickly because of an accident there. Not wanting to make Melody sad or get her in trouble for stealing again - and also with the upset townspeople breathing down their necks - they saved up until they were able to afford instruments and left home until they somehow made enough money to afford a nice life for their mothers and themselves together.
