Dankeschön! Glad you like it.
The only thing that bothers me is that it looks out of focus, even though it's not. Multiple layers of distortion as well as the low quality of the glass (since the ball isn't made of optical glass at all) just make it impossible to get the images within the bubbles any sharper than that.

Well, I guess with this challenge you have to say "you can't have everything"? Since we're supposed to make our own filters of random stuff, I guess it's impossible to take a perfect photograph. So I think for the circumstances, this one is pretty good?
(I'm still thinking on what to use for this, but I'll definitely cheer for your picture! xD)

Exactly. Pretty much every type of self-created, improvised 'filter' will have some impact on image quality.
So have you tried anything yet? If not, I highly suggest just experimenting for a bit - you'll never know what cool effects you could get otherwise.
Personally speaking I was originally toying with the idea of using some sort of cloth as a filter, but I soon dropped the idea in favor of some kind of glass. The cool thing with glass is that you can incorporate the shape of the object to get some amazing and unexpected distortion effects.
By the way, I don't do a lot of abstract photography, but if you like this maybe you'd like to have a look at my gallery ?

I haven't tried anything yet, I'm still thinking of what to use... idk, I thought about glass, too, but I don't have anything "special" so... yeah xD' I don't know, I don't want to make a "everyone does this" photograph (but in the end it will probably end up like one anyways |D)
I'll probably play aroung on friday, when I have my day off from work
I did, you have some really cool photographs there =O I love the bird ones... I'll have a closer look on them later (but be aware, that you might get a flood of comments and favourite messages then...)

Since I just happened to stumble upon this video, maybe it'll help you find inspiration?

I particularly find the welding glass idea cool; but pretty much anything that's darkly tinted could be used as a filter for long-exposures (not necessarily being neutral in color like a true ND filter, though).
Friday sounds cool, just make sure you don't miss the deadline!
Thanks! Glad you like my work.
