#1 – Ezio
Ezio was never interested in art of any kind. For him, it was plain, boring. He didn't want to look at any paintings, sketches or statues – in most cases, he liked the original better. Sometimes he also hated the originals. So no one who knew him, ever asked him "What do you think of this painting?" or "How do you like this wonderful piece of art?"
But soon after the young assassin met Leonardo, he became quite curious.
He asked the artist, where he had learned to draw that way, how he got all the ideas for new inventions.
And then he also asked Leonardo, if he could draw something for him. No, he didn't ask – he begged him. He also told him, that he didn't care what he'd draw or how. He just wanted something that reminded him of Leonardo when he had to leave for an assassination or something else.
And he got it.
And it was the first time, he was truly amazed, fascinated by a drawing he saw.
And not only because of the little note, which was scrabbled onto the corner of the sketch...
A note which said "For my most beloved one, Ezio", written in a way, Leonardo normally only used for documents, that shouldn't be read by anyone but him and Ezio… Which it was, if you look at it from a different point of view.

#2 – Leonardo
Leonardo was drawing all day long, sometimes. So there were a few people wondering, why he never even tried to draw a self portrait.
He simply thought it wasn't needed. He knew he was there, he was real – and as soon as he died, he would be gone. He didn't want to stay in other people's memories because of a simple painting, showing him as he had seen himself. He wanted to stay in their memories the way THEY saw him. If other's just had to see a painting to remember someone who was dear to them, so be it.
But he was pretty sure, that no one would even remember him that long after his life were to end.
There would only be paintings with his name somewhere on them. But to him that was enough.
That fact chanced, when one night Ezio was sitting in front of his desk, ruffling through sketches and drafts covering the old wooden board. He didn't talk for a few hours, looking at some of his works almost as if in trance…
But when he finally chose to meet Leonardo's curious gaze, his eyes weren't as emotionless as Leonardo had noticed them the last few weeks. They were the same as the time when Ezio brought him new codex pages, always curious about the things written in them, always eager to learn new techniques or gain a few upgrades for his hidden blades. The same as when he waited for Leonardo to finish his flying machine.
Eager but uneasy, not that sure if he should or shouldn't risk being hurt – or worse. Uncertain if the price wasn't too high.
When he spoke, his voice showed nothing of his inner turmoil.
"Leonardo, why don't you draw a self portrait?"
The artist only smiled, first shaking his head, then shrugging.
"I have my reasons… And no one really asked me to draw one… and I don't need such a thing for myself…"
The look that Ezio gave him then caused his heart to skip a beat.
"Then… draw one for me, amico mio! …please… I need one…"
"And… why?"
Now it was his turn to feel uneasy. He couldn't quite get a grip on what Ezio meant to say. For the first time he didn't understand his best friend, he didn't understand ANYTHING… And he was one who wanted to know about all things, who wanted a reason for every motion, for every action.
"Because… I always want to remember you, when I'm away… I want to be sure, that I have some place to return to… That you are here, that I care about YOU, not someone else… Ah, cazzo, I'm at a loss of words…"
Leonardo chuckled, for the first time feeling helpless…
"Stesso qui, amico mio… Same here…" he murmured, seating himself in a comfortable chair right in front of a mirror, starting to draw…

He had had to wake up Ezio a few times already. Especially if one or two codex pages would be harder to decipher than he had thought at first. But it was the first time that Ezio didn't blink at him, almost like coming back from a different world, not recognizing his surroundings at first.
This time, when he wanted to hand over the self portrait, not more than a sketch, Ezio opened his eyes at once, looking at him with a calm, almost loving expression on his face.
Leonardo wanted to hand over the piece of paper, expecting Ezio to grab it as he extended his hand towards the artist. But instead of taking the paper, he simply raised his hand, letting it slide into Leonardo's neck and pulling the artist down.
The kiss was brief, chaste, even in Leonardo's opinion. The only hint indicating Ezio's want for MORE was the short flicker of tongue against the artist's lips.
But before Leonardo could do anything, Ezio drew back, smiling at his friend, clearly satisfied – both by Leonardo granting his wish and by the kiss.
"Grazie… amore mio" he whispered, already on his way towards the door when Leonardo pulled himself together and called the assassin by his name.
"Don't you DARE getting yourself killed! We still have to… talk about this…"
Ezio smirked, noticing the blush on his friend's face.
"About what, Leonardo?" he asked, his eyes shining like a boy's, "I don't think I have to explain what the meaning of my actions is, do I?"
Laughing, the assassin exited the room, hearing the silent curses of the artist behind him.
To Leonardo it was quite hard to admit it, but… he quite enjoyed drawing self portraits if he would get the same kind of… payment for it every time. And for the first time he didn't regret that he let his feelings guide his movements. He would give up all of his other paintings to just see Ezio's expression when he noticed his scribbling at the corner of the painting…
