Peter opened the door and saw Jack standing in the doorway. Jack had returned, and Peter was frightened.

They had agreed on two hours. Two hours for Peter to make up a plan and think it through properly, figure out every possible outcome and solve every problem that could arise.

He wasn't ready to face Jack, not just yet. There were still so many things that could go wrong. He couldn't handle the thought of everything backfiring now, after they had known each other for so long. A single mistake could destroy their friendship.

But Jack didn't seem worried. He stood in the doorway, relaxed and confident and the corners of his mouth were twitching upwards as if he was fighting a smile. Maybe he was making fun of Peter, who was shaking like a leaf. Maybe he was just kind and friendly.

It didn't matter. It was the smile that made Peter forget all of his plans and just blurt out his thoughts, after years of hiding.

"I like you."
