Description REBLOG on tumblr hereonisuup.tumblr.com/post/845956…

the other day, I posted on my tumblr the steps that I use for colouring some of my art~~ ^__^
So now I just screenshot the steps from that post and compiled it for dA as well LOL (lazy much TwT)

Except in this version, I included my handy dandy brush settings! ;D
I hope it helps show how I work! ^q^))

__
the character in this 'guide' is my side character, 'cosette', in Animal Crossing New Leaf (I made her custom outfit hehe)
dream code: 4400 3181 9958, if you wanna check out my town ^q^))

Great tuto! But what's the purpose of making a folder? I always did without, but I don't know what it does exactly

having a folder for related layers (like all the colour layers) makes it easy to hide/show the layers when needed

and the folder is clipped to the masking layer -- this means you can make a new layer inside the clipped folder, and you can colour all over the layer real messy, but none of it will go outside of the space defined by the masking layer
Imagine, the masking layer is top sheet of paper with a shape cut out, and all the colouring layers are filed under that sheet of paper. You'll only see what's behind the cut-out shape
The folder is ensuring all the colouring layers stay under that cut-out shape

This may be a really dumb question, but, how do you preserve transparecy? I didn't understand...

onisuu In reply to CatsGamePlayer [2015-11-24 17:57:30 +0000 UTC]

On the layer box, there is a option to click preserve opacity/transparency for the individual layer that is selected ^_^

Go to selection, clear selection, go onto your lineart layer and use the magic wand to select the part you want

I know this maybe a dumb question but how did you color in the lines? Its my first time drawing on a tablet and using stuff like sai...
I get the step to mask but .... I dont see a paint bucket to fill it in or something XD

in SAI, you can duplicate tools by right-clicking on them and choosing duplicate. Then you can just copy the settings that I have posted to remake the tools I have
